Mcaz5's 01 4Runner Build

Thanks man! I haven't been able to wheel lately cause I've been figuring out some rubbing issues when stuffing but once I get that all squared away that'd be great. Are there any good places up near you because I mainly wheel on just local trails, no real parks or anything.

I hear you on the rubbing issues! My friend has some 255/85/16s on his tacoma and we have had to trim a bunch! But not really any good wheeling around here just mainly scenic trails in the Talladega national forest.

Yeah I've just about got everything taken care of and then ill be good to go.
Have you been on any? I thought about maybe going up to Skyway one day.

Oh yes lol! My and my buddy ride those trials a lot! Let me know when you wanna go, I'm off on the weekends.

How do you like those Open Country's? I have the BFG KM2s but they suck in the snow so Im thinking about getting a second set of tires for the winter.

I've only put about 1500 on them but I can tell you on the highway they are smoooooth. I haven't gotten a chance to really wheel them yet but I've gone through some trails with some mud in 2wd and no slip at all. Snow performance I couldn't really help on because we get no snow where I live. On road manners are great though compared to the KM2s which my dad has on his jeep. I can feel the bumps a lot more now on these tired though compared to my old 265 Bighorns. These are E-rated though, so that could be the biggest reason. The extreme version which is what I have only comes in 2 sizes for 16" wheels and that's 305/70 and 295/75 so that's something to consider unless you have 17s. And the extreme version is a bit heavier as well. If you have any more specific questions let me know!

Well I finally got around to getting some of the smaller profile wheel well bolts for the rear. I went to test them out and they worked great. I also put my rear sway bar links on the front to limit some of the uptravel to keep my tires off of the pinchweld. New rear shocks will be in sometime near the end of the week. Here's a few pics

I will definitely have to extend my rear bumps when the new shocks come in.

Got the new rear shocks installed yesterday. I went with the Rough Country N2.0. They were $98 to my door from Wheelers. Install wasn't too bad except for the fact that I had to take the grinder to the old shocks to get them off. Flex and ride on these is great! Couldn't be happier.

Looking awesome man, what are your plans for extending your bumps? I'm glad to see someone trying out these shocks, seems like a nice, less expensive alternative to the Bilsteins.

The plan as of now is to try and find some of the junkyard bumps from a chevy (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/134139-junkyard-rear-bump-stops.html) nice and cheap, but not too many junkyards around here, so hopefully I can find some.

Edit: I noticed you had the Wheelers extended brake lines. How are they and how was the install? I bent down the brackets on both my rear brake lines and at full flex the lines are pretty much maxed. My e-brake cable is also really tight as well.

Well I took my rig to a local trail today to try everything out with the new shocks and this is the first time I've really taken the tires off the pavement as well. I'd ran this trail a few times with the 265s so I knew the spots I'd have trouble with and what lines to take. I didn't have one bit of trouble on any of the old spots I'd had trouble with previously. Now this is obviously because of the increased ground clearance from the tires and the extended travel of the shocks. I still slightly rub in a few spots on the rear fender but it's nothing serious because it's all smooth back there. And in the front I still slightly rub in the corner of the fenders near the pinch weld area, but I knew I would and had planned to trim a little more anyway. Now I do have a kind of serious problem because of the extended travel of the rear shocks. The driveshaft is hitting the gas tank skid and it looks pretty serious. So no more wheeling for me until I can get the gas tank skid off and grind out a nice little section where the driveshaft likes to hit. Here's a picture of the carnage.

Are you running a panhard drop or an extended pan hard bar to move the axel back to factory center?

I'd get the bar... as the bracket I built... doesn't seem to move the axle over at all.....
I can't believe that slipped my mind. I'm not running either but do you think I could get away without running one if I clear the gas tank skid? I know if I went any higher I'd definitely have to get one but the axle isn't shifted over too far.

I ran without one for years... but thought I'd try to center my axle. I never had clearance issues, but I didn't wheel mine that hard. Only went out twice..... I hear the adjustable bar is better than the bracket.... and know that my bracket didn't help... so I'd try building, or buying a bar. :)

Sounds good. First I'm gonna try clearing the skid plate because it's free and then if that doesn't work I'll look into other things. Thanks!

I ordered some LEDs for the dash lights and the HVAC controls from superbrighleds.com and I got those installed this evening. I think they look great and the white makes the interior look so much cleaner. I do have a few hotspots even with the wax paper but that will be something I fix with time.
Lights I ordered:

I also ordered some corner LEDs from vLEDs:

Not quite as bright as I'd like, but for $5 I couldn't go wrong.

Man, i love them. I have never upgraded to stainless lines on any of my vehicles from the past, but the upgrade is well worth it. The pedal has a more firm feel and I could tell a difference from the first time I drove it. The install was a huge pain in the ass but incredibly simple at the same time. The constant dripping brake fluid from the disconnected lines coupled with the tight spaces up there made it a job i was glad to finish up. As far as your e-brake cable, i disconnected the cable from a couple of the mounts to give it some more slack. Its a stout cable that isnt going anywhere.

That's good to hear. I'm trying to decide if I want to go ahead and purchase a set of those when I re-do my rear brakes. They lock up on me all the time and creak and groan. I despise them and really wish there was a bolt on disc upgrade for our 3rd gens. I'd be all over that in a heart beat.

You and me both on the rear discs brother! I would recommend you go ahead and do the extended brake lines, better to do it all at once. Bleeding brakes is not one of my favorite tasks.

Well I've been quite busy as of late. To sum it all up I installed a .5" body lift, traded my 890s for some LC 7 wraps, installed a new head unit, beat the hell out of my pinchwelds and firewall, and attempted to install some extended length bumpstops only to shear the bolt off :bash:

Here's a few pics of the whole ordeal

Clearance between bumper and front fender area:

Overall shot, hoping the rake will come down about .5" to 1"

New head unit, It's the Kenwood DPX300U, I mainly wanted a new head unit that had sub pre-amp outputs so I'd get a cleaner sound through the stock speakers. I bought this one for $160 and sold my other one for $110. The sound quality is soooo much better. It sounds like I put new door speakers throughout the whole rig.

Pounded the firewall and pinchweld back about an 1"

And the current problem at hand...:bash: :bash: :bash:
