hey, this thread seems pretty active.

Plan on purchasing another 4runner after selling my oldie. Wife wants to start camping all over for 2017. We're thinking RTT and just go but I'm so green to even begin on where?

Any advice on where we can do some rustic camping within the midwest?

Depends on what you mean by rustic. Tons of State Forest campgrounds to choose from. I stayed at White Rock Mtn. in Arkansas. They have cabin's there but rustic camp sites were $10. There's dirt roads in the area to explore, hiking trails. I ruffed camped on the Keweenaw Peninsula in MI before. You could drive on the rocky beach and camp just on the other side of the trees. Looked like people have been going there for decades. Pretty well established sites and fire pits. Sound of the waves crashing all night to put you to sleep and late summer there's wild raspberries everywhere. Point Detour campground at the end of the T.W.A.T in WI is all right. Some nice state forest campgrounds along the north shore of the arrow head region in MN. Good hiking on the superior hiking trail. I've stayed at the primitive camp on the backside of the badlands national park that is free. And Black Fox Campground in the middle of the hills in SD before.

So it's that time of year to start putting this info out there. It's Memorial Weekend at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wi. Anybody wanna go? I think I can make it only Sunday this year but I'll try to make Saturday too. I'll be in my 99 that I finally finished. Only took 5 months of working on it in my spare time to fix it and build it up. Here's their website with camping info, registration, and what requirements your vehicle has to adhere to. Minnesota Go-4-Wheelers ? Minnesota's most active Offroad club since 1966

Checking into this thread as a new Midwest resident. Just moved to SE Michigan last month! Brought my '00 SR5 with me from South Carolina. I quickly bought a beater vehicle so that the 4Runner can be reserved for fun and exploration. Would love to get out there soon!

If you've never been to High Rock Bay, definitely worth the trip! Lots of logging roads up there to get lost in, but pretty cool scenery and there's an old launch pad up there. It's basically the tip of the Keweenaw. Also some cool lakes out there. There's one that's got an island and someone left a row boat for anyone to use. It had a sign that said to return it when you're done (This was a while ago, not sure if still there) Gotta love the yoopers!

South Chicago burbs here. 98 4runner Limited with e-locker. Only had her for a couple weeks, but getting something done on it every week. I'm lucky to know some "trails" through some farm country further south just from growing up around the area.... other than that it's the badlands OHV park, or the Cliffs in Marseilles.

Thanks for the info volkinator. I have been up to Copper Harbor for some MTB a few times and was looking into exploring more of the area. I will make my way over to High Rock this summer..

Just bumping this. I took my 99 out for its first test run this weekend and I'll have to do some tweeks but at least it's done. After I'm done with my tweeks I'm off to my buddies house to work on his '49 willys. There are quite a few people who bring a half finished truck to this event and then they break it. Makes for some good entertainment.

Just a few good pics from Memorial Offroad Rally. Went to it yesterday and had a blast. A lot of people trailer their trucks but I like to drive mine there and back home, that way I don't break anything:banana:

Hello everyone here in the Midwest, Always been a fair weather Bears Fan hehe
So I was wondering how ya'll prep your trucks for the winter here.

I've only seen a few other 4 runners around in Logansport, some had rust and some didn't, honestly I don't want my 4runner to get rusty.

I was searching a few threads looking for some advice, but didn't find much on "winter prep" just some folks talking about tires and that's about it from what I could find.

So I was figuring waxing her down on top and underneath, typical stuff for the top and sex wax for the inner fender wells and underneath so she wouldn't get rusty or use a rubber spray for underneath?

any idea's or techniques for winter prep and rust proofing your trucks.

I don't have a garage either so would a cover be wise investment or overkill idk what winter is like here yet lol.
