Hey everybody, newish 3rd Gen owner (Jan 15) and checking in to the Midwest group! I live in Milwaukee now, but grew up in Iowa and went to school in Michigan so where do I fit in??

Since I'm posting I figured this is as good of a time as ever to ask for a little help on my decision making. I need new tires before the winter and it's as good of a time as ever to pull the trigger on wheels too - also an excuse to put it by the gf...

I have an 02 Sport Edition in Thundercloud and decided on the 5 Star through FN Wheels, but on the fence between matte black or gunmetal. I mean you can't really go wrong with matte black and anything, but it's not exactly an uncommon theme. I thought the gunmetal may be a little bit of a unique look, but the contrasting shades of silver may not look as good in practice as in theory.

So what do you guys think, matte black or gunmetal? For the record I'm probably going with Hankook Dynapro AT-M or General Grabber AT 2 tires.

My vote is for the General Grabber AT 2's and probably black I am not sure though lol. I personally like the stock color haha.

From everywhere I've heard and read:

General Grabber AT2's or Duratracs. I'm looking at getting either set for mine as well. Depends on size for me. I really want to keep the rating to a c/d range, so whichever has a c/d in my size is what I'll get. But I have heard amazing things about both. The duratracs get really loud as they wear, but I've seen them perform in the white stuff and they are unstoppable!

Grabbers will probably last longer, and have a little more of an AT tread. Probably what I would go with... but I don't think you can go wrong with either. And for wheels, 100% up to you, I would probably say black or a bronze color personally.

I went with cooper st maxx's in 255/75/17 mainly because I get a tremendous discount because a family friend owns a tire shop but they are good tires and won't be on my sport all the time. I also got cooper st pro's for my 99 in 285/70/17 (again big discount) not entirely sure how they will perform in mud but I plan on testing it to see and compare them to the bfg mud terrain km2's on my dad's jeep. I have hankook dynapro mt's on my jeep and love them but I don't trust them in mud holes.

The Duratrac's are a little too aggressive for most of the driving I'll be doing. I had Hankooks on an 09 WRX and liked them alot, granted this is probably like comparing apples and basketballs....

Cooper ST Maxx's look great, but they're just too expensive for me. I want a "snowflake" rated tire being in Wisconsin and plan on taking a few snowboard trips North and out West, which is why i'm looking at the Grabbers.

Ha well maybe someone can help with why my map light cover stops the button from de-pressing. Its odd I take the cover off buttons work fine. Put the cover on buttons go in but not out .. It's irritating I have it rigged to where its not fully on. Anyways any ideas would be cool.

The button must be sticking to the plastic cover maybe wash the cover to see if anything sticky is on it. Not entirely sure

Ha yeah I thought so I sprayed everything with WD-40 but still no. Oddly enough the PO had some gay panoramic mirror with no OEM mirror so I swapped it out and thats when the buttons started messing up . Maybe I didn't tighten everything down all the way ? idk thought I did but maybe its worth a try.

Thanks for the Help, Now Buy My Stuff

First off thanks everyone for the input on the 5 Stars and tires. I took the info, made a couple calls and ended up deciding on Cooper Discoverer ATP, neither of the two I thought I had decided on!

There's a great sale on Ebay right now that's actually through the Discount Tire Ebay store. I called the shop that will be doing the install to make sure they were getting their cut, and they can match no problem. I worked in the auto aftermarket industry for five years and the last thing I wanted to do was shortchange an installer. So an extra $100 off through their promo on top of a $70 rebate and I was sold pretty quick!
