Posting this seeing if anyone would be interested. This year I am taking one of my 4Runners instead of my jeep. Starting to get a group meet up on May 22nd and heading down to some land to do some shooting and fishing south of DSM of anyone would be interested. Have a few guys from TW coming along as well. Thinking early Sunday to mid day and head back. Let me know if anyone is interested.

DSM is a couple of hrs from me and shooting definitely sounds fun, but unfortunately I work Sundays
I might be able to attend in the future if something's set up on a Friday or Saturday.

Hey Midwesterners, thought I'd say hello on this thread. I'm a native Chicagoan (based on Aurora currently) who has been lurking on the forum for a little while. I'm still hunting for a 3rd Gen T4R—a ride I've wanted ever since I got my license back in the 90s.
Chicago's a rough place to find a decent 4Runner—lots on Craigslist but everything's rusted, obviously. Would love to go buy in the South somewhere, but work schedule and family/kids make that a challenge.
Nice to know there are T4R people in my area. I'm looking to spend $4-6k if any of you are selling or know about any that are for sale. Otherwise I'll check back in when I finally find one.
My plans are to modify without seriously altering the original aesthetic. Probably a 2" lift, Duratracs, Tundra brakes, sway bars, dashboard LEDs, HIDs, stereo, maybe a vintage grille, things like that. I love the T4R but am still learning about them. I wish there were more green, red, grey and blue ones around, all I seem to be seeing are Desert Dune and Silver

I am from Toledo and bought mine back in December. I got one with 142k and light rust on the frame. I probably overpaid for it but I was looking forever and couldnt find anything in decent shape and a reliable maintenance history. I also was looking for black or green but all I could find was silver. I have a silver and everday, I lurk forums and CL and now see green and black ones for sale. If you know what you want, i suggest not to stray from that idea unless you find a unicorn.

Post up what you bought. Lately I've seen 4runners in very good condition that are also a great deal.

276k on it, Brand new tires and battery, tons of receipts for work done, needs a Front main seal(drips oil) and the rear hatch needs a new latch and handle(ordered both), only rust is the outside rockers. and the rear bumper corner(passenger side). The interior is spotless. and the exterior isnt in bad shape at all.

That's not bad at all. I had to replace the rear hatch handle on my 99 5 speed, super big pain in the ass so be prepared for that especially since the PO had already "fixed" it. I'm planning on fixing my rockers using an old jeep trick, rivets and sheet metal.

best part of all i paid $1500 for it. And I am a Jeeper at heart as you can see in the front end shot(with the dogs), my Cherokee is sitting next to the 4runner. The Body shop here in town will be putting the handle and latch in since i already paid them to diag it. its going towards the labor of replacement.
