Midwest Adventures?

I'm curious what adventures fellow members have had in the midwest.

While I love seeing the posts from Moab and other locations out West, I seldom make it out that far. I'm especially interested in hearing about others' off roading (fire roads and up) or wilderness camping adventures within about 5 hours of St. Louis. This roughly means a circle of:

Kansas City to Cedar Rapids to Chicago to Indianapolis to Louisville to Nashville to Memphis to Fayetteville back to Kansas City.

I’m in Omaha and don’t know of any places around here either. I have my brother in Chicago and brother-in-law in Bentonville, Arkansas, so I’m anxious to hear what is said about the areas you suggested as those would be ones I could head out to.

The only thing I know of reasonably close to you is Turkey Bay at Land Between the Lakes.

Mark Twain National Forest (look for the motor vehicle use maps) has a large ATV/motorcycle area.

It's a bit far south, but the Trans America Trail passes through north Arkansas. [MENTION=157620]JerseyDevil5[/MENTION]

Your best bet is to search for and join offroading groups on Facebook or another forum. I've lived in Chattanooga for 12 years. I just joined a new Facebook group a few months ago and have through them found out about three moderate-level and legal off-road trail systems within an hour drive.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. The Land Between the Lakes area is particularly interesting! In searching the name on here I've found a few different trip write ups. Perfect.

This note is on their home page: "Turkey Bay OHV Area is closed due to high soil saturation. 2/6/2019".

No, I’ve only driven out there once when we went to CO Springs for a few days. CO Springs is one of my favorite places I have ever been. So, if you get a chance you should definitely check it out. I had intentions of trying to find some trails while we were there. That was until, my wife and I drove on the paved road up to the summit of Pikes Peak. She was so petrified that I was going to roll us down the size of the mountain that when we got to the top I considered throwing myself off the side of the mountain instead of driving back down with her. After that I realized that my chances of going off-road with her were not going to happen. I’ve considered making another trip there with my 17 year old daughter this spring because she’s fearless like me and I think she would really enjoy it.

I am in Lincoln, NE. I have heard about tuttle offroad park but haven't been yet. We are sort of in a sparse off roading area in the midwest. I had heard of a ohv around Omaha/council bluffs but that may have been shut down.
 
flat nasty and moonlight racing are near stl also st Joe state park but its mainly flat sense you can't take big 4x4s in the wooded paths.
