Mobil 1 vs Mobil 1 high mileage...

Do you guys think there is any difference in the two?

Ive been using regular Mobil 1. But I saw at wally world the other day I can get Moil 1 high mileage for the same price.

Thoughts??

Over there is a sea filled with OCD oil guys. Some like M1, some don't. The HM formula seems to be well liked by all. HM formulas are similar (but more robust in terms of additives) to regular oil with extra seal conditioners. Based on the age of your rig I'd say it can't hurt.

I think the high mileage stuff might be slightly better if you put alot of miles on your truck per year (12,000-20,000) but I wouldn't leave any oil in longer than a year as personal preference. I run regualr M1 and change it every 8000 miles which takes me roughly 10-11 months and I now have 162k miles on the engine and it runs great and has zero leaks and I burn only about a half quart in the 8000 miles between changes.

I use regular Mobil-1 (or other synthetic, if it happens to be on sale for a good price) in the 5w30 viscosity. As often as I change it, it probably doesn't matter whether or not I use the "HM" stuff.

I just use the regular variety of it in both of my vehicles; a 2004 Chevy Silverado truck with 84,000 miles and a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE with just shy of 114,000 miles. I also use it in my girlfriend's 2002 Toyota Highlander that has almost 170,000 miles on it. No oil-related trouble with any of them.

P.S. I change both the oil and the filter about every 3,000 to 3,500 miles; but the Highlander gets the most 'road time' and I go 4,000 to 4,500 miles between changes with it.

The difference is exactly what is advertized, extended oil change intervals. If you run more then 10K miles in one year you would want to run the high mileage. The best way to determine how long your oil will safely protect your engine is send a sample to be analyzed. Using full synthetic you should be able to run one or 10K miles (whichever comes first). Again, to determine how long you run the oil you should send a sample.

Thanks for the replies guys. For the record, I have 126,000 miles and drive around 15k per year.

I will stick to the high mileage version i guess.

I'm running mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic with mine and I'm at 225k..

I think there may have been some confusion about what the M1 high mileage oil is.

It is not an extended interval oil, rather it is designed specifically for engines with high mileage.

So the change interval would be the same as normal M1 synthetic, it just has more (or different) additives to help higher mileage engines. It has more detergents probably to help keep things clean, and also what M1 calls a "seal conditioner" to help prevent older seals from drying out and leaking.

I have about 180k miles on my 5VZ-FE, and I just switched to M1 high mileage as well. (because it's the same price at wal-mart, so why not right?)

Good news

Here some interesting feedback on this topic:

I switched from regular M1 synthetic to the M1 high mileage in my Audi as well. (again, because it's the same price at wall-mart, so why not)

And good news, the engine has used significantly less oil during this last change interval. Normally it would use almost 1 quart over 5,000 miles, but I have about 4,000 miles on the oil that's in there now, and I can't tell that it's gone down on the dipstick at all.

So, just another reason to use M1 high mileage - it's good stuff.

Note: my Audi has about 120,000 miles on it.
