Mod Suggestions-2013 SR5

Hello friends. I am new to the forum. I just bought a 2013 4wd SR5 THIS MORNING! I live in Colorado and my fiancee needed a new rig. I am so pumped to be back in a Toyota. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on mods? Here is where I am so far:
1) Putting in 2014 taillights (compliments of another thread I found on here)
2) Putting in grillcraft insert (top and bottom) with throwback TOYOTA badge
3) tint (Bad_Influence)
4) New Tires (cooper discoverer at3)
5) Bilstein 5100s, front (.85) and rear (Jhalko) 6) Flowmaster catback exhaust system


That's all I have. I am considering putting a 20inch Baja Stealth LED light bar on the bottom grill.

Welcome fellow Coloradan! A 20 inch bar will put out great light, more than you can use on road unless you are away from the city. But I sure enjoy it! In stock form you can do a ton with good tires, you left off what you plan to do with the truck? On road mostly? Rock crawling or mild to medium off-road? With sliders and skids you can do a ton of off-roading in Colorado with stock form otherwise.

Thanks! yeah I will put on new tires next fall before the first snow. I currently have some Yokohama YK580's on my X5 and they have done well so far. But another suggestion would be welcome!

Welcome fellow Coloradan! A 20 inch bar will put out great light, more than you can use on road unless you are away from the city. But I sure enjoy it! Thanks for the reply! This will be our "mountain car" so there will be some mild offroading for hiking, exploring, etc. We have a jeep for the crawling so I'll keep the 4runner to streets and trails! I am assuming the stock skids are sufficient?

Probably fine in stock form, you'd probably really enjoy getting some bilstein 5100 shocks, regardless of whether you adjust the front up. Everyone here raves about the handling improvement on and off-road. The stock skids are thin and on the SR5 the gas skid only covers half (trail had a full). That said I didn't touch them in the first two years doing some mild to medium trails here in Colorado, but I'm a chicken off-road.

I actually still have the factory steps on, but I have shrockworks step sliders on order, but I'll also have to take the side trim off to fit them. More work than you probably want given stated usage.

Yeah, I would like to level up the front end. Do you know which Billy's I would need? (no rear lift, 1.5 , 2). I've read that stock rear springs have 2 inch space. I'm assuming no rear lifts Billy's, adjusting front to 0.85 inch. That sound right? Also did you replace springs on yours?

(At least you can reference model numbers)

My feeling was that if I Was taking it out I might as well spend a little extra as the cost difference wasn't an issue. From what others on the site have said .85 sounds right, if you go higher you'll have reverse rake, but honestly I don't know other than reading here. I had high country 4x4 install my stuff.

Thanks! I just ordered the Bilstein shocks! Think I will stick the stock coils for now. May change them out at a later date.

2.) Rims (widest you can fit, each inch each width is equal to 1 sec reduction in lap times)
3.) Suspension (I always enjoyed Ohlins, but for a 4runner I personally am aiming to give Fox a try. They make the best mountain bike forks and rear shocks).

Considering that the OP said this will be his "mountain car" I doubt it will be seeing any track time.

-The grill mod (assuming you do the mod yourself) is $200ish?
-Interior LEDs for all the bulbs is probably $75 with shipping?
-a pair of new 2014+ headlights will be ~$450 for the housings. Which do not include the covers or the bulbs... On ebay they are about $175 per light assembly (again no bulbs and questionable condition).
-OP will probably want fancy bulbs too, say he/she doesn't go with HID drop ins, then you look at XtremeVisions ($40 for a pair) or PIAA ($65)

All those mods listed are worth about say $1150 bux (on the low side)

There is someone in the forsale section selling a full set of Fox 2.0 front coilover w/ the rear shocks and rooter guard for $825! That would be my first mod for a car that probably has no more bumper to bumper warranty left.

I'd spend my $700ish to $800 ish dollar on a fox setup over tint, Leds and lights any day.

Nfab step bars will make it look a little sportier while still being functional steps. If you get the Bilsteins only on the front you may notice a slightly stiffer front ride compared to the rears, but nothing drastic. Try it first and you can add the rears later. But you should know the Bilstein 5100's you are looking for seem to be on back order nationwide right now. So maybe you can concentrate on the other mods for now?

I don't think your pricing above is accurate on all items buts that's neither here nor there. You may value suspension performance over lighting or looks which is great. OP may be the opposite which is fine too. Only reason I chimed in initially was that wide sticky tires don't make sense with what OP wants to do.

Thanks for the input guys. I have been updating the OP with new mods I am adding. I have ordered Bilstein 5100 shocks for the front and rear. I think I will stick with OEM shocks. Any thoughts on this? I don't really want to spring another grand on coils of I don't need to.

Unless you're adding front or rear armor you'll be fine with factory springs. I did a trip in October with almost 900 pounds of gear on the factory springs and other than softening the ride it made no noticeable difference in ride height. And to your earlier question about the skids, they will be fine until you decide to get more hardcore in your off roading.

My tint job (front doors and front strip) cost around $75. I'm not sure where you come up with $400 - $500. All of the windows behind the drivers door should come tinted.

High-End Titanium Tint can be ridiculously expensive (like over $1000 for a vehicle!). I don't see the need to go that crazy on Tint (others would say the same about my Audio system ), but at least use descent Solar (UV blocking) tint to lower temps and prolong interior wear from UV.

Apparently, our rear windows are also a tough to tint (my guy had to do it twice, 2nd time took like 2 hours!) - so make sure your Tint guy has dealt with T4R's if you need to get the rear darkened (can help to keep the thieves away).

Thanks for the tips guys! Anyone have a catback exhaust? If you do...how is it? Flowmaster or magna flow? If you don't...why did you choose not to do it?
