Modifying the XM Radio Antenna

I'd like to install a high gain antenna for my Verizon LTE Mobile Hotspot to help with areas in the mountains I get a weak signal. I'm also not paying for the built in XM Radio...

Has anyone tried modifying the XM Antenna to suit this kind of purpose?
Anyone have better suggestions?

XM radio and mobile cellphones or hotspots are not the the same thing and take different antennas. You should use a specialized antenna for each service. Also if you need high gain for weak signal areas that requires a directional antenna, not a whip that would fit on a CB mount. Wilson has a vertical whip that will fit a CB mount but it's not very high gain.
The Wilson 700-2500 Mhz antenna, model 304411 works well for weak signal areas if you need better cell service. They make 2 different models, one with an N connector and one with an F connector but you'll have to buy a pigtail with connectors to match the antenna on one end and to match the hotspot on the other end.

This is what I am using. It is a complete kit. You might have to buy some cable depending on where you want to set your antenna.

The whip antenna/amplifier might be a good option for some but note that it won't work if your phone doesn't use one of the 800 or 1900 MHz bands. Some phones also use 1700, 1800 and 2100Mhz. I still think a directional Yagi is a better choice except that you have to aim it at the tower in weak signal areas while the whip is omnidirectional.

Wilson does makes units for most all cell systems. Do a search and you will find a amplified unit for Verizon LTE. Which does use a different band.
You were correct stevec500, I was not aware of the band difference between the phone service and the LTE.
Amazon does carry a selection of Wilson Products.

I bought a Wilson Cellboost system, called their tech support, returned it, and bought one of their "Sleek 4V" versions. It works "okay"... I think I need a larger aerial before pass judgement. Be careful with Wilson... They make some decent products but Amazon does a terrible job categorizing them.
