Mojave Road documentary September 1-4th

Hello everyone,

Following our El Camino Del Diablo documentary, next on the list is the Mojave road. We'll be taking a fairly leisurely pace due to filming, leaving Los Angeles around 3PM on Friday and camping near the beginning of the trail near the Colorado River. We will then continue on to do the trail, camping for two nights, and hitting the freeway back to LA sometime on Monday where the trail ends at Afton canyon.

Should be a fairly easy trail and a fun time, crossing deep sand, rocky sections, a dryish lakebed, the largest joshua tree forest in the world, and a water crossing. Plenty of caves, mines, abandoned buildings and history to look at along the way.

Gosh dang! Always when I can't go. I'll be at port hueneme. This is the 3rd time I had a chance but not able to do it due to scheduling. Can't wait for the video.

Wow! Hope you're not baking out there. I can't imagine a hotter time to do the Mojave Road. I save that trip for Nov/Dec. Stay safe and hydrated!

We’re going next week if interested. I’m doing a side trip to Caruthers Canyon, Hart Mine, and Castle Mountain open pit mines.

For those interested the documentary is now available on YouTube a 4k version will be posted sometime this week on Amazon when the render finishes, we had a great premiere at Overland Expo this weekend with lots of great feedback for the next one.

Mojave National Preserve

The video was fun. That's a really mild road. There are so many more places to explore in Mojave National Preserve. For anyone who wants to go explore it I suggest you get a good park map and a couple of books on Mojave National Preserve and find out what's out there.

In 1986 it transferred from the BLM to the National Park Service. There's no off road travel but the Preserve is full of old mining roads and canyon routes that are plenty challenging. You must stay on established roads. No guns allowed either. Dogs are welcome and you can camp anywhere there's an established pull out. The books tell you where you can find good campsites.

We were out there in April on a whirlwind weekend tour of 5 places we wanted to see. Here are photos of what we found:
