Has anyone every had to think on their feet when deep on the trail? I recently went out on a night romp and the bolt on the strut tower came loose and the front left shock came loose deep on the trail. My friend was able to jam it back into place with a flathead screwdriver but we were unable to locate the lost bolt to secure it into place. At first we locked some vise grips to the shock tower but that only last about a quarter of a mile until it too fell off. Then we scoured the car for a bolt that might fit. Believe it or not the bolt off the tow hitch package actually fit right on. Saved us from getting stuck 12 miles deep from anything in the middle of the night. Any stories??

Has anyone else ever been stuck deep on the trail and been desparate to fix a broken part? Does anyone else have any other funny monkey rigging stories that helped them limp off the trail in one piece?

this is why i always carry bolts of all sizes, as well as washers and nuts

thats the odd thing about toyotas, random bolts will work everywhere.

i often keep bolts i remove.

yea most all bolts on the inside of 4runners require 3/8" or 1/2" or they are phillips head screws, with those 2 sockets and screwdriver you can completly disassemble your entire interior.

My buddy blew out his tranny in a place here called Devil's Den. Not a good place to be broken down at night. People take stolen cars back there and burn them or run em over untill there flat. Couple of murders etc. He didn't want to leave his rig there until morning so he spent the night in it. No quick fix but to wait until daylight and call one of us to tow him out.
