Motor swap done!!!

Just finished the swap and final tuning last night. Runs perfect, oil pressure is spot on and no cooling issues after a 30 mile drive today in 85° heat today. A crap ton of hours, blood, sweat and toil went into her but nothing worthwhile is easily gained or ever truly done.
Spec's: Raptor performance 22re
Turbo clutch and flywheel
LCE injectors
Trailgear motor mounts
Performance 22re complete sensor package, filters, t-stat, exhaust studs
LCE tune up kit
And some other odds and ends that I am sure I am forgetting.
Next step under the hood is performance exhaust, intake, and ignition and than I'll be happy for awhile with the engine and move on to other areas.

The awesome looking rebuilds I've seen and all the aftermarket support parts make me sort of wish I had a 22 in my truck instead of the 5vz. :)

Looks really great.

A stock 5vz is more powerful than just about any built 22re and at a fraction of the price. I will trade my built 22re for a stock 5vz any day!

How are you liking the added power of your 22re? All said and done would you do it again or would you have done an engine swap? I put close to 3k into my 22re and it is a lot more powerful than a stocker but I don't think I would do it again. I probably would have just done an engine swap to the 5vz of 7mgte.

Here's my engine:

Specs:
22re block, bored .030 and deck milled (.017-.020 quench)
Street RV head from engnbldr with a 268 cam
New LCE fuel injectors
LCE Header w/ cat delete
LCE lightweight underdrive pulley
A/C Delete
All new sensors
All EGR and un-needed vacuum lines deleted

With all the stuff above I have been told from LCE and Engnbldr that I am probably somewhere around the 150hp range. It pulls my 4runner with a 3-4" lift, 35" tires and 4.88 gears pretty good at 6000-7000 ft in Colorado. It has done pretty good at 12,000+ feet in the mountains as well. Overall it's a decent engine but with all the money spent I would have been better off spending a little less and doing a 5vz swap and getting more power.

I understand the 5vz is just fine but the 22re all fixed up sure looks purdy. :)

So how was your experience with Raptor?

For th e most part pretty good. When I first put the order in the dude didn't send me a confirmation email or any shipping details. After the weekaand a half he said it would take to ship to me it hadn't showed up so I called back with some concern and got the owner on. He answered my questions and had a warranty, confirmation, and installation email out to me same day. It still took over 3 week's to get to me and a few calls to calm the nerves but once she showed all was as listed.
The motor has only been running for two days so it needs a couple weeks to really break in and loosen up but I can already feal a huge difference in power and that will increase as she breaks in.
All in all I would say it's been good, if anyone were to order from them I would suggest asking for the owner.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the engine?

Almost $1800 with shipping which in my opinion isn't that bad for a performance build. I like your motor as well, would be curious to see what you can delete as far as vacuum and egr are concerned. Since we both are here in Colorado maybe we could get together for a trail run and a beer sometime.

that's a good price.

That's a darn good price! I assume that was for the long block?

I'm down to go wheeling any time! I was supposed to go tomorrow but I think this weekend is going to be some catch up maintenance on my 4runner. What's your schedule looking like next weekend? Shoot me a pm and we can discuss some more if you like.

You better hurry, he's going to sell his truck next week.

Nope! I have gone full circle and have definitely learned my lesson on this runner. Out of the last two 1st gens I have owned between selling my 87 and buying it back, it shocks me that I ever got rid of this one. It's in so much better shape, rust free, good engine, good suspension, etc. than both of the 85's that I have had. Never again will I consider selling this 87. There may be others that come and go but this one is my baby and we have been re-united at last!

SV Dude, would love to get out on the trails soon but unfortunately I am in the process of getting ready for a move into our new home at the moment. We close on the 10th and move on the 14th so I don't think I'll be available to wheel till sometime in late July. Plus I still need to install my rear locker which won't happen till after the move. I will definitely pm you when I get closer to me being free to wheel.

It will be longer than that to break it in fully. My mustang is just getting to full power and economy at 2k miles.

Agreed! I think my engine was at 2-3k before I thought it was broken in and in its groove.

Another thing to do is change the oil every 500 miles for the fist 2k or so.
My first tank through my mustang I got 3.8mpg, but that's a built v8, not a 4 banger Toyota. After a couple tanks I was up to about 15mpg or so. Proper break in is key with any engine.
