I've seen a couple people post pics of their mountain bikes in the cargo area of their T4R and was wondering how people did it. Specifically, what did you guys attach to the floor for the front fork dropouts? Did you drill into the cargo area floor? Use self-tapping screws? I'm planning to do this but want it to be as minimal impact as possible, so any lessons-learned that others can share would be appreciated!

I've got a quick release front wheel, so I just take that off, then slide the bike in so its resting on its back wheel/handlebars (seat is all the way down). Then, I just take a bungee cord, wrap it around the frame, and then hook it on to the floor d-rings (back of the seats actually I guess), or onto the metal rings where the seats click into when folded up on the side walls of the truck. It works well.

I haven't done it personally but have seen severally guys cut a board out that fits the floor and bolt a fork mount to it. Don't think I've seen anyone drill into the floor, most either cut a full floor from plywood or just make a piece that lays across the edge and remove it when they take the bike out.

I cut a board to fit the width of the bed in the back. Cut holes where the rear tie downs are and stretch a bungee between the tie downs to hold the board in place. Fork mounts are installed on the board to hold the bikes upright. Be sure to use all three holes in the fork mount and largest wood screws that will fit. Works great. Have used this for many years.

i guess im an other then :wacko:
cut board based off floor mat. two layers of plywood, bike mount, used a carriage bolt so it would be smooth on the bottom and not rotate when bolting the mount down. wrapped in fabric and addad mounting spots. i dont even bolt it to the d rings anymore. the fit is perfect and it does not slide

Thanks guys! I ordered the mounts HokieRunner used in his DIY thread, they'll be here on Thursday (yay Amazon Prime!) and the rest of the hardware I'll get from Home Depot. I'm going to go with his design for ease of installation and removal, plus it should allow some modular retrofitting in case I want to mount anything else to it.

Very cool - drop me a line if you need any tips or have any questions. I picked up most of the hardward from Sears Hardware in Franklin Farms (Herndon/Oak Hill). they have a much better supply of unique/random hardware than lowes and homedepot.
I would try to swing by (would love to see the Aston Martin) but I'm in the middle of packing to move house in a couple weeks (moving out to Gainesville so I'll still be somewhat local). I'll let you know if I get a spare minute though. Hope the pups get better soon!
I cut a piece of plywood to match the width between the wheel wells and use the adjustable screw type eye bolts (dont remember what they are called) to secure it to cargo hooks in the floor. Then i bolted a Kuat "dirtbag" mount for a 15mm thru axle to that and it works like a charm.
