In a 2005 4Runner 4WD, or similar, I was wondering if anyone had moved the AC Power and Diff Lock buttons that are to the left of the steering wheel to the center console area? There are two blanks in my center console that would be perfect for these two buttons. The reason I want to move them is that you can't see them at all and I sometimes like to rest my left foot on that part of the dash on long trips. Of course, I could just cut and splice wires, but what I specifically want to know is if there is a resource to get a custom made wire harness "extender" made up for these two buttons that would retain the same wire colors and also have "factory" plug adapters? I really just want it to be a simple matter of running the new "extender to the new button location and just plugging it in. Any insight here would be appreciated.

But worse still can you imagine what an AirBag deployment might do to you with your foot up there, it might shove your left keen through your face or chest. or bend your leg at an angle it was never meant too. Yikes! I dont think moving the buttons or putting your foot up there is a good idea

Well, in my case, with typically just having myself or one other person in the vehicle, the chances of the buttons getting pushed on the center console are pretty small - it hasn't happened yet with the buttons that are there already. As far as the Airbag deployment goes, I have thought about that, and, while it may be slightly more dangerous in an accident, with the way that my leg is positioned, I don't think there is much chance for the worst case scenario of a knee in the face.

It's all so personal, I am going to relocate my DAC switch up to the Diff lock/115V ac panel because of inadvertent activation. My dog will sometimes activate as he goes between the front and rear seat. I've even done it when fumbling for the cell phone when it's plugged in. Good Luck! Post pics when you
Falls, check out this link to taking your dash apart, which includes taking out that part of the center console, that part literally takes 5 seconds. When you take this out, you will see that the wire harness is NOT (edited) easily moved to the dash location. http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/oemnaviaccess/

As I've learned more I realize the 4Runner is a vastly superior vehicle in many ways. I just wish it had a little more 'cool' in the image department. I know how cool it is and I guess that's all that mattersYou could always get a real FJ40, i.e. 196? - 1984 vintage and just take the top off! The dog will love that.
I also drove the new FJCruisers, and agree that the T4R is vastly superior. I've owned a variety of original FJ40s and almost bought another one, but decided to fill my need for speed instead and got a 1996 Porsche 993. Good times, but the dog certainly doesn't fit in it!

It would make it easier to extend the wiring if you could source the opposite sex connectors but Toyota always acts clueless when I have tried to do that in the past. If it really gets impossible to do you might give this man a call. He has helped me in the past and makes custom cables w/factory connectors and will also sell just connectors.

Limited's center console has additional cutouts for the seat heater controls, five total in that area. They're along the the edges on the sloped edge of the console. The other two on the flat section in the middle is for the optoinal rear air suspension on V8 Limiteds.
