MPG in the Limited - What's your mileage?

Hi Guys,

I'm about to strike a deal on a limited edition.

However something called my attention and I need to ask

According to specifications the mileage on the SR5 and Limited are the same city/highway 17/21.

When I test drove a limited one, the MPG meter showed from 6 to 8.5 MPG driving in the city at speeds up to 45 MPH.

I have to believe because the Limited edition uses AWD at all time it has to burn more gas.

How is your mileage guys? This could be a show stopper for me.

I was hoping for the 17/21 MPG. If the Limited is that much of a hog I will then make a jump for the SR5.

Not all Limiteds are 4WD, and not all SR5s are 2WD. Both models are avail in both configs. TEs, however, are only avail in 4WD.

Well, I'm referring to the 4WD and that's what the specs show (17/21).

I've had my limited 4x4 for about 2 months and average 17-18mpg in the city. It depends on how aggressive I am with the acceleration. If I keep the eco light on (slow accelerations) I can average about 20mpg in the city.

The computer averages the mpg over time. If you were to reset the computer and were heavy with the acceleration (trying out a new car and seeing what it can do) you will likely average 6mpg or maybe less.

Yesterday I traded wheels/rims with another member so that I could have the SR5 rims. I'm interested to see what kind of a difference (if any) I get in mpg. The SR5 rims area softer/smoother feel than the skinny tires on the 20in rims. I prefer this feel but to each his own.

My average fuel economy in a 2011 Limited has steadily improved since new, and is now 12 L/100km. That equates to 19.6mpg (statute miles, US gallons)

Not all Limiteds are 4WD, and not all SR5s are 2WD. Both models are avail in both configs. TEs, however, are only avail in 4WD.

Possibly it's different in the US, but in the Canadian market, 2011 Limiteds are available only as AWD.

I reset the mpg computer every time I fill up, and I only use non-ethonol gas. I've been averaging 18-19 combination city/hwy with a 4x4 limited, and that includes towing a small duck boat on the weekends. I've gotten as high 22 on the hwy.

Depending on how I'm driving, seems to be averaging 18.5 to 21.7, that's ethanol-free also . I do a lot of interstate driving where I'm at, and easily cruise at 80mph, crusie control on. When I parked it Friday, I believe it was at 19.9. LE 2WD, 6900+ miles.

I'm going to meet the dealer tomorrow and see if we can strike a deal for the Limited.

I'm hoping to get it out of the door for 40K. The dealer did not want at first so I was walking away. I told him Why should I pay full price for a 2011 when the 2012's are around the corner. So he asked me to meet him tomorrow to see if they can take my offer

The Limited is the only way to go unless you plan to change out the suspension. The SR5 is softly sprung, has handling issues and does'nt have the Torsen Center diff that allows AWD. Don't expect it to ride and drive like a family sedan or CUV, it's still a tall, heavy truck built on a truck frame with a truck engine. Pull off the rockers and the air dam, and put on set of 17" wheels and AT tires and it will go anywhere the TE will go.

Columbia is nice city, been there 3 times in the last few years visiting my daughter and my son both of which have been staitioned at Ft. Jackson at various times. My favorite resturants are California Dreaming and Yeaterdays. Seems to be alot of yankees living down there tho?

Yep lots of transplants. I'm originally from the mid-west (Michigan). Relocated here about 5 years ago for work and the weather. Love it here.

We were down there in Feb. last year when they got 6" inches of snow for the first time in 75 years. It wasn't pretty.

With 1200 miles and a little over 5 weeks, gas cubby has me tracking at 15.8 mpg in a 4wd limited. Probably 450 of those miles are highway, the rest city. I took it really easy for the first 700 (almost always in Eco mode) and have progressively become more aggressive with a few kick downs and WOT starts. City driving has been Atlanta, so heavy traffic and highway driving has mostly been in the 85mph range. Gas has been 87 octane BP. Here's a breakdown of my mileage so far:

@ 243 miles: unknown
@ 544 miles: 15.4 mpg
@ 858 miles: 16.9 mpg
@ 978 miles: 15.4 mpg
@ 1225 miles 15.3 mpg
Avg 15.8 mpg

I expect things will settle in a bit, especially after the first oil change. It'd be great to get the mileage reported by some of the other owners on here:hatsoff:

Best tank of gas has been 22.6 (70% commuting, 30% city)

Average has been 21.3 mpg. (I never exceed 70 mph on the freeway)

Recently been getting 19.5-19.8 consistently with city driving (avg 19.5 over all the fill ups to date). Highways is usually around 23-24mpg.

Mine seemed to have been stuck at 18.2 for the last month of highway/city driving. I reset it a couple of days ago and now it's settled into a comfortable 18.5.

After several days the dealer called me yesterday and wanted to cut the deal I wanted "Limited for 40K out of the door".

So in few hours I will picking up my first 4Runna! so excited
