MSD Ignition coil packs for v8 4runner

I got a v8 4runner and wondering if anyone has had experience with the MSD ignition coil packs? I have headers, custom exhaust and always looking to increase performance and get the most out of the engine.

Just curious what you all think and if it's worth $350.

I’d consider them if I needed coils, but I doubt they’d make enough difference to justify the price if the stock coils are working as they should.

Early next month, i'm just going to bite the bullet and buy them. There's one 4th gen owner that has experience with them and says there is a noticeable difference. If it doesn't work out, I can always return them. I'll report back with my experience.

What do you hope to gain from these coils?

Not a fan of these coils. I had them on my GMC sierra. Truck never ran right with them on. Eventually took them off and put the OEM ones back on. The truck runs perfect again and have not looked back.

Hoping to gain so more power and/or better engine response. According to one user who's had experience with them said, "They worked out well, the truck seemed to run great after I put them in. My subjective butt Dyno said it was more peppy afterwards."

So I have to say, i'm a bit curious with this coils. I think now though, i'm going to hold off on getting them. If when I do need to replace the coils, I'll give the MSD coils a shot and see what happens.

Back when I had a Jeep, I upgraded the ignition coil to MSD and it seem to wake up the engine a bit with better starting power and overall smoother acceleration.

What do you hope to gain from these coils?

Way back when, 1973, I bought a new Porsche 914-2, had a 2 liter flat four in it. Of course I wanted more power ( should have bought 911 instead as they were reasonably priced then) and saw that the spark plug connectors had a resister built into them, so replaced with straight metal clip-ons and thought, wow! what an upgrade, ran fine(for awhile) and no radio interference.
Then, months later, a friend and I on way to Sebring for the road races and spent the night in Columbus, In. on way down.
Next morning the 914 started hard and ran like crap, missing, cutting out, dying at stops. There was a Porsche dealer in town so took it there. He came out after a few minutes and asked about the spark plug connectors, I told him been on there for months. He said the originals had a resister for a reason, the ignition system was designed to operate with them. Ok, so $75 later we were on way to Sebring, never had another problem!
Go figure.

I’m going to get the msd coils. Did they work out for you?

Also interested to hear how these perform. Guessing it would be little to no difference but even if they were equal to OEM performance might be worth considering as they are less $.
