Finally the rain stopped and I was able to get the tires on. These are Falken Rocky Mountain ATS II tires (same as WIld Peak), on American Outlaw Buckshot wheels.

I'm planing on building some rock sliders in the next couple weeks. I'll be using 1-5/8 x .120 HREW tubing for the build, and some plate steel for attaching them to the frame. I'm basing these off the 4xInnovations design, and this is what I've come up with so far.
I still need to take final measurements for these. As this picture is right now they have a total length of 64", will stick out 4", and an additional 4" on the kick-out.
If anyone has the 4xInnovations sliders and can measure how far the tube comes out and how far the kick out is that would be great. I think the main tube coming out 4" will be fine, but I think the kickout should only be around an additional 2" rather than 4".

I thought about doing that, but I've always liked the way they look tilted up some. Since I'm building mine, I should be able to alter these if need to fit in between the flares. I'll be able to play around with these to see what I like before I weld them though. Although, I think the ultimate choice is going to be up to the wife. She tends to pick everything out and have me install everything. I've been trying to talk her into learning to weld for about 4 years now.

So, I have some more designing to do, or trying to design. We're wanting to keep our stock rear bumper, but add some additional supports to it. We've yet to find a rear bumper that we'd like to put on our 4runner. I'm thinking bringing tube out through the center of bumper where the frame rails are. Then wrapping a piece around the full length of the bump, with some hopes on the sides. I know this is kind of hard to understand, but here is a drawing of what we're after. This is by no means a finished idea, just a starting point. The black arrows are going to tie into the frame, somehow.
This is just a basic idea of course. I would like to be able to cut holes just big enough for the tube to fit into the bumper. The idea would be to fit tube through the holes in the stock bumper, and then tie it into the frame. I'd also like for this to be able to support the weight of a tire carrier.
Let me know you thoughts on this, and it you think I can get something like this to work.

You'll have to make some pretty good sized holes in the bumper so it can move. The factory bumper is mounted to the body which will move some in reference to the frame.
You'll also need some hefty steel into the frame to support a tire carrier, since the factory bumper provides no support. You might consider attaching the new piece to the factory trailer hitch (that's what I built my bumper on, but I moved it up into the frame rails instead of below them).

The factory bumper is going to serve no purpose but looks. I was considering a way to raise the trailer hitch and have it come out through the center of the bumper as well. Pretty much just like you did. I've also planned on running tubes down, and around the bottom of the stop bumper to protect there well. Everything would be tied into the frame in multiple spots. I've just wondering if it'r going to be more work then it's worth to try this.

Plate bumper, that was the easy part! She's all about the new Addicted front bumper, and we'll be getting that at the beginning of the year. I'm actually quite surprised that she let me buy a lift, wheels, and tires. Especially when she didn't drop a dime of our money on my old jeep.

Call the dealer and give him the VIN. Or you can check at toyota owners and register with the VIN and it'll give you complete history of anything done by dealers.

Alright, so I haven't been working on the 4runner to much lately since we have a lot going on right now (more later). This weekend I'll finally be trying to finish up the platform so we can actually use it. The platform has been completely painted and sealed, and now just needs the top put on. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make the lids for the areas that I need access to. I can't figure out if I should hinge them or put in a finger hole to just lift the lids off? I'll try to get this figured out by the weekend so I can get the top finished and hopefully the carpet too!
On to whats been taking up a lot of our time. About a month we decided to put future plans in effect now, or a year from now to be exact. We've started our blog, Facebook page, and are working on sponsors for this adventure. My wife and I are big backpackers, campers, hikers, and paddlers. So it only makes sense to attempt our adventure while we're still somewhat young. My wife had spinal surgery for scoliosis when she was in fifth grade, but hasn't let that stop her from enjoying things she loves. At this time we're picked up three sponsors from various scoliosis groups, and another from Ruffwear Performance Dog Gear for dog that'll be with us on the trail.
We're teaming up with the National Scoliosis Foundation, Scoliosis Research Society, and Curvy Girls Support Groups in effort to spread awareness of scoliosis. Coming Christmas 2014 we'll be leaving for Georgia in an attempt to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail NOBO to Maine. Our journey is going to start about 2 months before most consider starting the thru-hike. We'll deal with colder temperatures, greater chance for snow, and shorter days. This is all fine by us since we absolutely love hiking in the cold and the snow. Although, I get to a point where snow gets old, but not the cold. We've been section hiking the AT over Christmas week for the past 6 years, so we have an idea of what to expect. We're hoping the early start will gradually get us our trail legs. We'll have the luxury of hiking at our own place since the trail will be mostly empty of thru-hikers at that point. We're planning on taking anywhere from 5-7 months to complete our hike. We're walking away from our jobs, our house, and our lives in St. Louis. I have a lot more information that I could type, but I don't want to bore you.
