CB Antenna Mount

I've always liked the look of the Outdoor Logic Drifter antenna mount. With them not being in business anymore, it makes it pretty hard to get one now. So I decided to go ahead and make one as close as I could from only using pictures from here.

This is what I wanted.


This is what I came up with.





Just need to add some paint and I'll be good. I still need to adjust some on this since it is quite perfect. Once I get that done I'll be putting this into Solid Works and will consider making them on my own. Mine is welded rather than bent since it's the first one. If I get into producing these, they will be bend and not welded. I'm also trying to figure out how to make a one piece mount with 2 bends and no welds.

I'll get some finished pictures up tomorrow when my antenna shows up.

Any MOD 2.0

This is just a quick write-up on the Andy MOD 2.0 using a real TRAC Off switch from a Toyota Avalon.

I want to start by thanking four members. Without their help, I would not have been able to make this happen.

Like many other members, I want to keep the stock interior look as much as possible. I started out by using a Toyota Avalon factory TRAC Off switch that I picked up from a fellow member.


This switch is normally open, and needs to have a relay to operate it. I picked up a 5 pin BWD R3074 relay from my local Autozone.



I then cut the red wire with the black trace for the Andy MOD 2.0. From here I used butt connectors on each end of the wires to extend them about 12" to the relay. This is a basic drawing of the wiring outline for the relay. These wires are run to 87A and 30 on the relay.



From here I used 86 as my power and 85 as my ground. My power is coming from an open spot on the fuse block under the dash on the drivers side. With the ground being directly below (picture shows it halfway cut off).



I have the main power from the fuse box running into the TRAC Off switch, and out to the relay (86). You can see the four wires all hooked up here.



I then mounted the relay to one of the screws used to secure the gauge cluster.



Next, I ran the wires to the location on the dash I used.




This is the final result. You can see that I moved the security module to another location. I swapped the security module and the CDL switch. Now I have the TRAC Off and CDL side by side.

Lone Star Jamboree/Buffalo River

This past weekend we spent some time at the Lone Star Jamboree in Gilmer Texas, and a night on the Buffalo just outside of Yellville Arkansas. Lone Star was a blast, but that red dust started getting to us, and remote camping was calling. Here are some pictures from the trip.

Got rid of the Jeep in late July last year. Once the clutch went out again, I decided it was time to let it go. Plus the 4runner has a lot more room than the jeep did. Plus, this thing is a lot more stable than that old YJ was. Coils flex so much better than springs, and the ride is 10x smoother. Nothing blue on this, mostly going to stick with the black theme.

Hoping to see some changes happening to my 4runner over the next couple months. I need this more capable for what our needs/wants are. Trying to get this more ready for an overland type of adventure.

CB Antenna Mount

I couldn't wait any longer, so I installed my antenna mount today. I'm going to be running a hatch mount rather the Drifter mount that I'm making. The mount is an OPEK Am 204 7SM. I'm using this mount with a Firestik medium duty spring, and a Firestik II 3' tunable antenna. It's mounted on the driver side and I routed the coax through watertight loom connecting the hatch to the body. I just need add some liquid tape to where the coax enters to loom to close it up.


Wire coming out on the inside of the cab. I had to remove the rear light, and pull the center section of trim off to access this area.

Eagle Eye 3w LEDs

Needed just a bit more light in the back. I added a couple Eagle Eye 3w LEDs to the back hatch along with a SPST LED rocket.I need to work on the wiring still but you get the idea. There isn't a lot of room to work with on the hatch. I had to make sure that each of the three holes wouldn't contact the hatch at all. There are three grommets behind the hatch trim. I popped those grommets out, and made sure the LEDs and rocker where situated directly in the center of those holes.

Clear Corners

Not much going on. I was able to get my Eagle Eye's wired up and I'll get some pictures of them tonight. I was as able to get my clear corners installed. I picked up a set from eBay for $19.99 shipped. In case anyone was wondering, the 96-98 clear corners work perfectly on an 01.

I found something good today, and backed out of something good. I found on 04 Land Rover Discovery II SE a few days ago with with 119k miles on it for $11k. Today I can across another Land Rover Discovery II SE with 81k miles on it for $9k. Well, I'm buying it on Saturday.

Now to the point that something has to go. On the chopping block is my 01 4runner or my 03 F-150. My wife gave me to go ahead to buy the Rover. Then she handed me the ultimatum of either selling my 4runner or F-150. It literally took me less then a second to say my F-150. So, the F-150 is getting sold for this beauty.

Did you search the LR forums for issues with the DII? I almost bought an 04 a couple of years ago - 90K, ARB bumper, Warn winch, roof rack, new M/T tires, could have gotten it for about $8,500. But, after looking on the LR forums I found it has a 'scheduled failure list' beginning with the front double-cardan joint that fails because it is too close to the catalytic converter and the heat cooks out all the grease. After reading the list of issues to check off, I decided another 4Runner would be the better bet. BTW, when the double-cardan joint goes, it usually destroys the transfer case in the process.

I sure did. These are all things that I've addressed already. Some of the issues are easy fix and some you just have to deal with. I totally know what I'm getting myself into, and I'm looking forward to something new.

I do like the looks and legend of the Discovery - I've wanted one since they started importing them back in the 90s. Just couldn't bring myself to take on the challenge. Good luck (seriously :thumb.
