Alright sounds good I'll check them out! I will probably need to call though since I will be needing new shafts since mine are kind of pitted. I may be able to save them, but I would just feel better with new...

So my Thule roof rack that I have had my RTT attached to for the past couple of months has caused a terrible rattle in the roof of the 4runner. The front half of the roof is not supported because of the sunroof so this is what has been causing the rattle. there have been several post where people have stiffened the roof using flat bar from the inside, but I didn't want to pull my headliner and risk damaging it. I decide that I would take a different approach and build a flat rack that will more evenly distribute the load on the roof. I built this with basic materials that can be found at your local hardware store and used a harbor freight welder to assemble it. Now I have no more rattles that tent is secure and it sits lower on the roof. :ylsmoke:

Your welds. Omg such hawt.
Hey man I work with what I got. That welder was free, lol there is only so much you can do with a flux core MIG welder.

Hahaha I'm not hating, I said they were hawt! :cheers: Last night I rewelded a tab on my jet skis handlepole that limits the steering travel that had broken off, the previous tab I had welded you couldn't even tell where it had been "welded" on. I really sucked ass at welding back in the day...like 18 months ago haha

I am pretty good at welding but having the right equipment makes a huge difference. This welder is such a piece of junk that it doesn't feed at the same rate and sometimes it will just stop feeding and then go again its kind of annoying lol . Plus the torch is always hot even if you're not pulling the trigger you can flash yourself...

I did say harbor freight correct? It would be an effort in futility lol I'm looking into getting something nicer maybe a mig/tig miller. One of my dads buddies is a sales rep for them so I can probably get a good deal.

I dig the platform for the tent. Nice and sturdy and low profile. I myself have been looking for a good solution for mounting my tent, and I think I've got a guy I found on Tacoma World making a full length platform/rack for me. Should finish up the design and have it to me hopefully by July.

heck if you want to copy mine I wouldn't care I even still have all the measurments and I took pics along the way thinking i may end up doing a write up on this. I like it cause I am only out $70 bucks on it and like you said it is really sturdy and nice and low on the roof.

Dropped the 4Runner off at 4xInnovations this past weekend, when it's done it will be set up with sliders, a rear tire carrier, and all of my armor will be powder coated! I went with the tire carrier rear with the dual jerry can mount, and DOM bolt on sliders (being developed) with the kickout.

Well with all the graduations and work that I've had to do in the truck I haven't been able to get out and go camping recently. But with any luck I'll be able to give you a review on it this weekend. Initial impressions are that it is a very useful and sturdy addition to our expo rig. I also think it's going to work nicely as a placeholder since I do have an RT T and have nothing to leave at camp when I leave to go wheeling. All assuming that we're not on a continuous trail.

If someone is interested my 4Runner is for sale now. Shoot me an offer if your interested the mods are all getting transferred to my new 4runner, but there is about $1500 in maintenance that was just done on it so that is a plus for you guys... I am not looking to actually get 7500 but its craigslist so I figured I would give it a shot at that price. One little issue is the surface rust around the winsheild, but that is easily fixed. Clean frame though.
