Muffler delete vs aftermarket mufflers

I've seen people say they got rid of their stock muffler because it's to restrictive and go with an aftermarket muffler. Why not just have no muffler? I understand some people like the low growl and all that good stuff, but from and efficiency standpoint why not just drop it? :shrug:

Its effing loud without one. Believe me i've tried and it gets really old really quick.

I'm in the process of putting the exhaust back to stock on my truck. I must be getting old or something.

Uhm....1 yes mufflers are restrictive. And 2 the catalytic converter... Yeah they are very restrictive.

Stock mufflers are restrictive.

This is why I went with the magnaflow, no restrictive chambers, straight through design.

Yeah, as stated above there are plenty of high-flow mufflers available. I personally find loud exhausts obnoxious, and I'm young. Many can say that the catalytic converter is restrictive but I'd rather not have my vehicles smelling like a lawn mower and putting out excessive emissions for the minor gains. Save that stuff for off-street use.

I removed the cat on mine. While it does make a significant different in mid-higher RPM, the low end grunt from 1000-2000 rpm got killed.

I wouldn't do it again.

I really see no point to put an exhaust on an automatic v6. I've grown up believing noise is power. Now days thats not too true for most. For me it is. My runner stock exhaust. My Volvo no cat 3 inch with only a glass pack. It make noise but makes power.

I put an OEM muffler on my 99 several weeks ago, after the old muffler was rotting and noisy. First time I started it, I literally thought I bought an electric car... "what's that whooshing sound? Oh, it's the fan." Love the quiet exhaust.

Getting punched in the face by your disgruntled neighbor because you wake him up every time you drive by his house at 11pm is not worth the incredibly minor change in performance you'll get from hacking your muffler off.

Try having your next-door neighbor being that jackass. I see plenty of V6 Mustangs in high school too. I've had enough of it and I'm not even out of there yet.

IMO, tone is more important than how loud your exhaust is. I actually like the XR-1 muffler but I would get the one with the largest case just so it wouldn't be so loud. Maybe even a resonator thrown in.

So overall after reading this. Is a magna flow muffler even worth it? I have a magna flow connection and was thinking about putting a new muffler on. If there is no gain then I'll just keep stock and throw that money somewhere else.

I recently went with the Thrush Welded and am very happy with it. No interior drone, nice throaty sound with throttle, and not going to wake up the neighborhood. I have plenty of other cars in my collection for being obnoxious with.
