My 2007 v6 4runner engine blew

Any way you put it, it was a catastrophic failure that should not have happened. Out of the millions of 1gr trucks out there, there's bound to be a weak one somewhere and unfortunately you got it. At least it's a Toyota and they'll take care of the issue free.

ya that's true, but you are right in the matter of there will always be atleast one that is bound to mess up, or something to go wrong. if any type of engine was perfect and issue free then i want one! but i don't believe there will ever be any vehicle that is issue free ever.

And still no word (i'm so impatient......haha)

okay so my oil rod blew out. they said when that happened it hit my crankshaft (broke it) then shot through the crank housing.

so i get a New engine.....for free =)

Congratulations! We know that's a big relief for you and your folks.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Glad to hear that this story had a happy ending. It is definitely rare to hear about a Toyota having these problems. Hope you get your 4Runner back soon!

I would say a "used" engine with similar miles from a junk yard. I know when my KA24DE died (Nissan 240), the dealer found an engine with similar miles from a junk yard and swapped them out.

Something doesn't sound right with this. How would the dealer/Nissan warranty such a replacement with unknown service history or even general condition?

To the meat of the post, it is good to see from the new owners perspective that Toyota covered this. Still getting used to mine but so far I LIKE IT!!

Okay so i went to the dealership today. what i was told on the phone was wrong.....oh well

i talked to the mechanic and he showed me what happened and why. here are some pictures

what happened was one of the exhaust valves broke loose (was told manufacturing defect) and bounced around in the piston, shattering it. then blowing a hole through the left side of the engine. then another one at the bottom of the oil pan. so with one shattered piston, the fragments of it were thrown around in my engine block causing 2 other pistons to crack.

so i will get brand new
-engine block
-pistons
-crank shaft
-oil pan
-headers
-timing chain
-he said he would replace all of the belts
-gearing in the transmission

pictures aren't the best quality, i took them with my cell phone.

Why would they re-gear the transmission? At least they are fixing it. I wonder how many of these " defects" made it out the door? I sure hope I don't have one.

i was wondering the same thing when he told me that. but it really doesn't matter to me, ill take some new gearing.

WOW!! That is one castastrophic fail!!!!:happens:

I'm also unsure why they would mess with the Tranny Gears. If it was not damaged they should leave it alone!! Or replace it with another factory sealed unit. No need to crack open a perfectly good tranny. They might do more harm than good.

Good luck either way!!!

IF it's at a dealer they won't crack open the tranny. Too much liability for them. They'll give you a new/re-manufactured one.

Never hear of a catastrophic fail like this, unfortunately you're one of those one in a ____ .

Since people say you never hear people preach about how amazingly problem free their vehicle is... I will.
Bought new in June 05, 108,000miles now, problem free. Every 5,000mile oil change and all scheduled maintenance done by the local dealer I purchased it from. No unexpected costs, just tires and brakes on top of scheduled maintenance. Looks and runs today as good as year one. Cant decide whether my best friend is my 4Runner or my dog... I've had many other vehicles and many nicer vehicles but this is the last thing I'd let go of if I ever had to pawn off my belongings. An all round imensely capable, comfortable, reliable and trustworthy member of the family.
