I have it for 3+ years now and nothing breaks down on it. This is crazy.

Yeah it can get boring after a while.

I purchased my T4R SE in 2005 and, aside from the air conditioning evaporator leak, not a solitary problem in the 8 years, 95k miles. In 2010, My wife purchased a GMC Acadia and I have had nothing but $^%%*!@@)$*($^ problems with it after only 50k miles! First, it was the electrical system and ECM. Then, the power steering pump. Then a leak in the radiator. Now, there is a problem with one of the cams! No, it's Toyota for the rest of our lives, at my house!

Yep, yotas are the best! Had mine for 3 years this December, driven it from California to Florida and back, and everything inbetween, and all it's needed is regular maintance, I can't complain!

hey OP, my 4Runner is the only vehicle I feel comfortable with driving from Calgary to Vancouver back and forth in winter...reason: AWD + reliability
I know it wont leave me stranded out of nowhere...:keyboard:

I'll trade you. Mine is a well cared for 1 owner that I just picked up in March with 104K on the clock and all service records....and it's got a laundry list of problems that you may or may not see on any other brand of SUV. I literally am doing one thing at a time because I can't afford to fix all the problems with this thing at once.
I have a 2005 SR5 with 88000 miles. I got it new and the only wear and tear items i replaced so far are. ATF oil, air filter, cabin filter, engine oil and filter, differential oil - front/rear, greasing of the yoke, brake fluid, brake pads (rotors are still the original) - i'll replace it next time i replace the pads, drive belt.
the only thing i replaced is the battery since i forgot my key in the car overnight and it killed the battery. A few weeks ago, i had the battery light on and ended up replacing the alternator and now back to business again.eace:

Five out of the last six vehicles I owned were Jeep or Dodge Ram...and I had fewer problems from those than I've had out of any GM, Ford, or Toyota products I've ever owned. From my experience Chrysler makes the best stuff on the road for the money. Sometimes I still question my decision to trade my Wrangler in for this 4R...but what's done is done.

Having owned my truck for just under a year, I had hoped it would have been more reliable. Bought it at 109,545 miles and it now sits just under 119k. In the time I have owned it, I had:
-Both front brake calipers seized
-Both wheel bearings replaced
-Transfer case leaked and needed to be resealed
-Both CV axles leaked
While it is now running like a brand new truck with the issues resolved, it is not as reliable as the other Toyota in my family, 2005 RAV4 with 153k miles. Not much to report about that over routine maintenance.
Love the 4Runner though and I expect many more years and miles out of it without worrying about it.

Exhaust manifolds cracked
Battery replaced for 2nd/3rd time
Axle drain plugs freeze, are destroyed in removal each time
Brakes are horrible
Sunroof makes odd noises at times despite lube
Driveline clunk (fixed by lubing heavily from time to time)
Excessive rust
Headlights fogged over, must be sanded periodically
T-case freezes and fails commonly (got lucky and found one that worked)
Getting tired of typing...need to give the fingers a break.

So couldn't these be from the original not keeping up on basic maintenance. And I'm sorry but to place rust on this list. . .really?

No, because as I mentioned on page one...I have all the service records and the PO kept good care of this thing...and spent a ton of cash before 100K out of pocket fixing junk. I don't even want to know what that 4 caliper replacement/rebuild job cost at the dealership. Ouch.
And rust...yes...because it's a clear and documented fact that Toyota trucks were prone to rust more so than other brands. In fact, in the past 10-15 years Toyota has even launched campaigns to buy back or recall trucks and not just the Tacoma. I've owned "American" trucks with over 200K on the clock that didn't have the bolts and nuts frozen as bad as this Toyota.
I could add all the nit-picky stuff like how the rear wiper arm doesn't even touch the glass, the license plate screws to the body of the vehicle (what the hell?), the radio antenna is built into the glass which has horrible reception, there are no real tow hooks, etc.. but I don't want to sound like I hate my truck.
I do like this 4R a LOT. The point here is... Toyotas are NOT more reliable or better designed than Jeeps, Fords, or anything else out there. Every brand and model has it's low points.

I'm thinking you might purchased a lemon my friend. It happens with all brands. I purchased my runner 4 years ago with 40k. I now have 110k with the original calipers, x-reas suspension and the most I had to spend is $900 for new tires. I've also owed a Ford Ranger, Chrysler 300 and many jap imports. The Chrysler by far is the worst car I ever owned. The digital display went out at 60k, auto window motor would constantly need to be replaced. This thing was a money pit. I see a lot of old yotas out on the road, especially pickups. I rarely see late model Chryslers, except when being towed. There's a reason why Toyota is the world's largest automaker.
