For my 2020 ORP

I wanted to try a cheaper option, so bought 98121-21020 hoping it would fit, or I can Jerry rig it to make it work.
2020 ORP part has 3 pins straight, and does the 98121-21020

When, it arrived, it is too big. Opened it to see if I could somehow connect it, I think its possible cause sensor is sensor, nothing more. I did not want to have a unfinished sensor right in front of me. Here is what it looks like inside if someone is interested.

The mod should work on all 2010-2019's. Depending on which wiring harnesses you have, you may need to add the sensor, or the sensor and harness.

I didn't have either of the harnesses, so I had to to add the harness, and the sensor. I can confirm that after adding both, the night dimming feature does function as expected.

How much was the harness? How did you decide which one to buy? How hard was it to install?

Search for "Toyota 8912130020" on eBay. I bought one out of Japan (seller I bought from doesn't have any listed now) that got here in less than a week. I paid around $80 for it.

So it looks like 8912106020 is the latest rev and is what's being used on the TRD-PRO and Limited.

After driving yesterday through a few tunnels and in the dark I’m questioning the need, for me, for this. I takes awhile for my eyes to get used to the dark screen so when I turned on the lights and the Nav. screen dimmed in the tunnel I could not see the details very well. When it got dark and I turned on my lights at dusk it took awhile for me to get used to dark screen. It was a good brightness after the sun went down and I had been in the dark for awhile.

The sensor? Im interested. Was your wire already plugged in or did you have to also plug into the head unit?

To save me from reading the entire thread, what does this sensor actually do? My biggest issue with my 20 TRD Off road is the lack of auto headlights. Hoping that is it!

Adding the sensor, to a vehicle that does not have the Automatic On/Off Headlight feature, provides automatic dimming/brightening of the Infotainment screen and dash based on ambient light. It does not make non-auto headlights into automatic headlights. It’s like having half of the automatic lights system.

It was already plugged into the radio, I just had to install the sensor for it to start working at night

Everything still applies to 2020 - the only difference is the sensor itself which does not have a $5 AM equivalent, it's (currently) OEM only. I paid $65ish for mine on ebay.
