If you flat tow or tow with a dolly be sure to disconnect the rear drive shaft. Not that hard to do.

If you flat tow or tow with a dolly be sure to disconnect the rear drive shaft. Not that hard to do.

In an automatic transmission this is very important. The pump won't spin and lubricate and cool the transmission. I have literally seen a focus towed 5 miles like this and ruin the trans.

On a manual transmission as I believe he has the lower gears spinning in the transmission whip or throw the fluid up and lubricant the upper gears. Same for the transfer case. Point being it is just fine to flat tow a manual trans with the drive shafts still in place. Huge no no with an automatic.

Alright! So I have two parts rigs lined up! Going to probably rip out the transmission if either of them are 5-Speed 4X4s because mine is trashed. Going to grab "new" seats out of them if they are in better condition than mine. If the bumpers on either of them are in any decent shape I will likely be pulling those too. Seems like I made a decent breakthrough here!

Different note, what is a common problem with AC in these elder rigs? I know mine is currently 2 windows down at 50mph, because the AC unit is "dead". I'd like to be able to pull her together so summer next year isn't terrible.

The battery terminals can be cleaned with soda, pop, soda pop, coke, whatever you want to call it. Afterwards, a coat of petroleum jelly will help minimize further corrosion.

The first thing I did after I bought my 4runner is obtain the factory service manual. It's free.99 here on the internet. Some of the first steps in troubleshooting should be to make sure the drive belt is present and working, whether the clutch engages the compressor and if there is ample fluid in the system.
