So yesterday my wife pointed out to me that my front passenger tire has a slice. Took this to Oregon 2 weeks ago on it's 1st run. This is a shitty way to start off on new tires. Anybody else had this problem with Goodyear Duratracs? I knew I should have just bought the MTRS
Duratracs are famous for their weak sidewalls. Now I know this is going to be an unpopular comment, but I see them as a pavement tire with off-road looks. They are extremely popular because of their winter rating and aggressive looks but IMO the sidewalls are designed to give a supple ride rather than off-road durability.
That being said, that slice looks pretty superficial. As long as there is no bulge, you're ok. I would keep an eye on it and replace it immediately if you notice any bulging. But otherwise, I'd keep running it.

Like Calvin said, if you can see the cords (woven wire), it is not safe. If you can see them by lifting up the cut, take it back to the tire shop and they should replace it for free if you just recently bought them.

So I am here @ Discount Tire and they called Goodyear because I wanted to get the MTRs instead. I have the warranty on these tires and paid $1300 out the door in November. Discount Tire told me that Goodyear will not give me any credit due to the 3 other tires have no manufacture defects.
So Discount Tire told me that they would give me credit on the 3 other tires and pay the difference on the warranted tire for the MTRs. Wanna know what the out the door price? $1000. **** that. I knew I should of went with the MTRs in the 1st place. I ran 35 MTRs on my 80 Landcruiser and loved them to death.
Thinking of just running these Duratracs and getting the MTRs for just wheeling. My fault, but shit happens. Mahaloz guys for the feed back. That stupid flake symbol was the selling point. [emoji35] [emoji379]
Maybe try selling them yourself? They are such a popular tire that you might not lose too much money going that route. I've been surprised multiple times by what people have paid for used tires I've sold.
FWIW I'm on my second set of treadwright guard dog retreads and couldn't be happier with them. The performance off road is amazing and the on-road noise and performance is good enough. I regularly air them down to 12 psi.

DUDE!!!!! those pillar bolts are the worst!!! i tried to remove my pillar where the handle attaches and i immediately stripped the bolt to sh*t and gave up...
how did you end up getting the bolts out anyways? I'm way curious. i was going to buy a bolt extraction kit to get it out...

I bought a extracting from IRWIN at my local Ace Hardware. Spent .5 hrs on that and said F This. I got my cutting wheel and chopped the ends as close to the pillar. Then got my knife and scraped the rubber off. Then I got my small vise grips and unscrewed the 2 bolts. Total hrs spent for removal was 1.5 hrs. 15 minutes to install. Lol

Yah kinda disappointing. I was wheeling kinda hard going in the mud pits. Do know if it was from a rut or rock. My MTRs had no problem on my 4runner and Landcruiser.
