My Build "Big Red"

wheels fell through last weekend so im getting a different set from a buddy this weekend and hopefully if i have enough time im going to pick up a bumper. Only problem is its almost 3 hrs away from me ugh :frusty:

Got the "new" wheels and tires on this weekend. 15X10 steel wheels with 35" Bighorns. Ill post pics in a little bit after break at work

new wheels and tires

35x12.50r15 3 Maxxis Bighorns and one wild country XTR. I also have one more Bighorn with some camber wear for my spare. All in all not bad for $265 after mounting, balancing, and a can of paint and deck of cards to paint the rims.

Picked up dual electric fans this weekend from out of a mid 90's nissan maxima. I am going to get them wired and mounted this weekedn if it doesn't rain all weekend again. Will have pics after the weekend.

Sad sad day. I think the 3.0 blew up this morning on the way to work. It's a few months before i was ready to pull it out. Its now in a parking lot and im at work. I'll have an update once i get it home. :sobbing:

Ok so an update. Last friday i definitely spun a rod bearing on the way to work. After doing some checking around and some pricing and research i have decided to go ahead and do a 350/th400 swap in my runner. I chose this because it is the cheapest and fastest option to get the runner back on the road. Im going to hold off on the SAS and am going to sell my dana 44's to help pay for the engine swap. Hopefully ill have her back on the trails in time for my b-day in february. Ill post some pics once i get the engine out and get the new engine home. Ill probably upgrade the charging and electrical system at the same time. Any suggestions are appreciated.

What style 350 (carb'd, EFI, etc) are you planning on running?

Im going to go old school with a carb. I want to find a late 60's early 70's 350. I was going to go with a 4.3 vortec or a tune port 350 or something like that but i don't want to have to hassle with all the wiring and emission controls or having to get the computer reprogramed. So for me the solution is a carbed 350. It will be cheaper too. I was also planning on keeping my toyota 5speed but its cheaper to just get a th400 and get drivelines made and this way i can play on the rocks a little bit easier.

Good looking build. I like the volvo estate/tarp stand.

Thanks. LOL yeah haad to do what i had to do. It started raining and i had to drive to work on monday so i had to get creative. We actually sold the wagon the weekend before i blew my engine sad times. So i had to get my other volvo running so i can drive. It's a 82 turbo, intercooled, electric fans, chassis and strut braces. I got both of them from my grandparents. My gramps did all the mods to this one.

Sorry about the 3.0! Mine just took a poop on me as well.. it's in the shop getting a new 3vze in it.. I was wondering about your lift kit, did you really just get longer coil springs and shocks for the back to lift?

Yeah pretty much. Its just longer coils and drop brackets for the 4 links. Honestly my entire lift could be made at home if someone had the fab knowledge. The front is the same way. Its all drop brackets. I was going to research if i can add long travel suspension to the front since my lift is all brackets. Then i would have the ability to run 35-38 inch tires on a long travel setup. Dont think it would be good for trying to jump it but thats not the kind of wheeling i do anyways. I probably wont want to shell out the coin for that though. Save that idea for when i get a truck.

If that's all you need to lift it how come everyone is selling these $1200 lift kits that come with 100s of pieces?

Thats all that my lift kit was. I didn't pay 1200 for it though. I got lucky and bought my parts truck for 100. Steal right. Had the 4" procomp lift a 3" body 38's and 4.56 gears. Problem was no title and a blown engine. As far as why is everyone selling these is by my guess because 75% of the do it yourselfers probably dont have the skills or comfortability to make their own. I could reverse engineer my lift very easy if i wanted to for my next IFS toyota. Except for the springs that is. Check out my closer pics of the lift and you will see what im talking about.

So for the front as well you just have the springs, shocks, and drop brackets?!

Yup the front was all drop brackets no spacers anywhere. The back was longer coils and drop brackets. I did the front over a week after work and did the back in a weekend. So it didn't take too long. I have seen people selling the front lift on craigslist. If your interested id look there. Since its all brackets in the front you dont have to worry about if they have been well used. I also have a support bar in the front that goes from the LCA to the trans crossmember.

You dont need longer coils or shocks in the front?
