My Build Thread for "Imogene"

Love your 4runner. I'm going to have to do my trailer hitch like yours. Have any problems towing with it?

Well, to be honest I don't tow much more than a trailer w/ a 4-wheeler, and I have only towed the trailer empty once since I did the modification.

Two things come to mind.
1) I have to get a different drop-hitch. Between the lift and then raising the receiver location my trailer looks like it is trying to pop a wheelie going down the road:p I just haven't gotten around to buying one.

2) Use the proper thickness steel when doing this mod. Weld EVERYTHING. This is an important mounting point, you don't want whatever you are towing to pass you down the highway because you didn't do your welding correct.

Thanks for the kind words.:thanks:

The Whitson rack looks great up there man. It makes me wish I had a reason to use a roof rack just so I'd have an excuse to buy that one.

Your 4Runner is coming along pretty fast, and you've still got plenty in the works w/the body lift fixes & color matching. Good work, and I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

I gotta say that I love the Whitson rack:bravo: I wish I could say I have a "good" reason to buy it (as if the looks alone aren't reason enough). Honestly I bought it for the looks. When I sold my Valkyrie bike I told myself that every dime of it was going into the 4Runner.....and guess what? yep, I'm now broke.

Bigfishallday: Was it you who bought the black TRD stickers and then put them on your centercaps? Because my center caps are losing their paint, I was considering painting just the caps black and doing the TRD sticker on them as well. What do you think? Alloy wheels with black center caps?

Hmmmm....

No sir, I used some custom cust vinyl decals and a clear coat. RE using the TRD logos on the stock center caps, it would be very doable, but you'd have to use some Bondo to fill in the existing Toyota oval logo depression so that you'd have a smooth surface on which to apply the TRD logo. I say hell yeah, but don't go black. Fill in the oval logo w/body filler, then paint the cap with a fresh coat of silver, then apply the logo, then add some clear coats. I would look like they came that way from Toyota, and would be a sweet touch IMO.

Ripcord was the one who used the stickers w/the TRD logo.

That is an outstanding idea.
Thanks for the pics and link.
Ripcord, sorry for not giving you the props on this, I knew I had read it recently and thought it was bigfishalldays thread.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but its a good one!

I really like all the work you have done! Definitely a quick change from when you bought it not too long ago.

I vote you keep the limited flares as they are, I like the two-tone look WAY more than all black. Especially with the 5-stars. :hiding:

Anyway now I am sub'd, so I look forward to updates!

I have had several people comment to me that they like the two tone color of my rig. I have never liked it. I am wondering if it is a grass is greener thing....

I have made a request on the Tacoma world photoshop thread to alter a couple of pics so I can do up a comparison and maybe have a poll. Ultimately it is up to me, but I must say that I have been thinking lately of leaving it alone. decisions, decisions.:redbrick:

Up until I recently bought a different 3rd Gen, I was looking to color my fender flares black on my Limited. Now I have an all black 4runner, so I no longer have to worry about it :).

I was the same way with my Sunfire Red and Topaz cladding. I had people saying they liked the topaz and others saying black would be better. You'll always get both sides, but just depends on what you like best. You're the one who has to look at it every day. I like the all black because it just flows.

I think the tan cladding on the 2000 Limited looks great.... if you don't buy aftermarket bumpers. If I were planning on keeping the vehicle without armor, then the two-tone would look great, but the black ARB on the front clashes with the two-tone. I think it'll look worse with a black rear bumper as well.

That is my thoughts as well....I LOVE an all-black vehicle. I guess it is growing on me because of all of the cool goodies I have added to it lately :bravo:

Here is a pic from the photoshop thread. The texture is wrong but you get the idea. When I paint it, it will be glossy like the body and roof rack.

spent some time...

I spent some time today down on my hunting property finishing up working on a hunting platform I built this summer. I hunt a big field that is surrounded by fence rows. There is a small fence row IN the field. I have always wanted to hunt from there but the trees weren't very large. I managed to get my hands on some telephone poles and a 25' cedar tree so I built an 8'x8' platform 20' in the air. Today I put a "roof" over half of it. This way I will have some protection from rain/snow yet still be able to look at the night sky if I want.

Anyway I also took this opportunity to snap some pics of my runner from high atop the "crows nest" and just out in the field.

Enjoy.

Finally, here is a pic that kind of shows my "hunting hotel" a little bit.

another pic

I have always enjoyed the panoramic pictures that my Samsung Galaxy takes, so I thought I would post up one of my favorites. I did this from my hunting property with the sun in a good spot.:thumb3:

If you look close at the trees in the center, you can make out my hunting "hotel".:hunter:

I was wondering if you had climbed a tree or something. Thanks from the great pictures and the panoramic is awesome. Perfect time of day for pictures.

Since you're a hunter, and hunting season is coming up soon, and because all the pictures you have posted of your new roof rack show the rack EMPTY....

I vote no more gratuitous rack pictures UNLESS there is a dead deer and/or deer parts on/in the roof rack. Challenge accepted?

Hahaha!!! I've noticed, you really don't like roof racks that go unused. I like how a roof rack looks on these 4runners, but I don't like what it does to gas mileage. The 4runner I just bought came with a roof basket, and I took it off because I don't have any use for it right now.

Full_Throttle, your 4runner is awesome by the way. I really like how it's turning out, I can't wait to see it with the fenders color-matched.
