My Dual Battery Setup

Inverter?

Airbur,

That is an impressive setup you've come up with; I don't have my '07 yet, but your solution is exactly what I have in mind along with my audio mod. Do you mind sharing what type of inverter you have and whether you used the stock remote switch or your own?

Thanks,
denali

Hi denali,

Thanks for the compliment. The Inverter I purchased was the Vector MAXX SST 1000W unit. I actually haven't installed it yet because it's a bit bigger than I thought it would be. I was hoping to install it under the front passenger seat but it appears too large for that spot. I'm now thinking I'll run power to a distribution block in the cargo area and mount the inverter back there. I purchased the standard switch from Vector to go with this inverter but I don't really like it. It's the size of a residential light switch and plate (large) and won't mount in one of the stock locations like the battery separator switch did. Unfortunately, most all inverter manufacturers mandate you use their switch.

I'm thinking I could add a switch to the power supply line and contol it that way, not sure yet though. We'll see.

I know the thread is old, but great write-up Airbur.

Question, how long can an extra battery provide power for electronic devices? I plan to charge my iphone/ipad, be able to watch movies off my head unit, power a LED lamp. I have plans to go car camping and figure I need something to do once the sun sets.

Is the dual battery setup extremely taxing on the alternator?

Anyone know how to calculate what's the max inverter I would need to purchase if I wanted to connect multiple 100-120watt devices to it?
