My Lift ideas for 2000 SR5 Sport

I recently bought a '00 SR5 Sport and really like it. The PO put a revtek kit from Les $chwab and from what I can determine it is the Revtec 430 kit:
Revtek Suspension | Toyota Suspensions

I called Revtek and confirmed that it should be a kit that is 3" in the front and 2" in the rear and pretty sure it included the differential drop spacer but will check soon as I am under it doing work. Will also get the panhard bar drop if not already done.

It looks like the PO also installed a set of Les $chwab mountain ryder extreme foamcell shocks on the front which apparently are a rebadged version of a Gabriel shock. Best I can tell it looks like she only put shocks on the front and the stock shocks are on the rear.

This was all done back in 2007 when it had 75000 mi on it. Now another 50,000 mi on it the truck rides fine in its current form, gets blown around a bit in strong winds but I do mean strong winds so not a big deal.

Looking at it now (pic below) it looks like it is sagging just a bit in the rear which is what I don't like and why I am thinking of upgrading the rear springs and shocks + depending on price and funds might do something with the front too.

So hear are my thoughts on lift...

I read the FAQ Lift Info thread. Good info. I'm just looking for opinions.... I mostly use the truck as a daily driver, live in Reno so drive in lots of snow and will be putting AT tires on it (not mudders). Probably stick with 265/75/16's. I do some light off road but mostly just Nevada dirt roads so far. Who knows, I might get into it this summer doing some camping with the girlfriend and dogs. Really what I am looking to do is get it back to level, don't need a super off road set up but do want it level and the best ride I can get for a reasonable cost.

Options:

a) Rear - Should I just get a new set of rear shocks + OME springs 890 or 891 and ditch the current rear spring spacer set up. Figure this would get me 3-3.5" of lift for the rear for cost of about $300.

b) is that necessary or could it just be that the rear stock shock is holding the rear down a little? I could just replace the rear shocks with some new ones and save $$ and/or look for some LC coils for $60 at a local shop + $100 for rear nitro shocks. Figure $160 and still get 3" lift. Thinking that is the better option - new nitro shocks and LC coils at 7-7.5 wraps.

c) For the front I am considering ditching the current spacer set up and replacing the front shocks with a matching set to what I put on the rear + either getting a set of TRD coils (maybe $200 for procomp shocks and used coils) if I can find them locally at a parts yard OR maybe order the Toytec/Eibach front coils + procomps to get the full 3" lift on the front. (cost $300). Do the TRD coils only give 2.5" front lift or 3"? I don't want the rake to the rear.

Honestly, if you go with the LC coils and TRD Coils, you'll love the ride! I'm extremely happy with mine! It's also one of the most cost efficient options you posted, especially if you do the work yourself. Personally, I went with complete TRD Tundra Strut Assemblies, off a wrecked truck. Got mine off e-bay, and with the shipping, they ran me around $330.00 bucks....(shipping to Canada = RAPE). The LC coils, I got for free, but as you probably already know, you can score a set for $60 - 80 bucks. The only thing is, I find with that lift, my smaller 245/70/16's look really tiny compared to my 285/75/16 tires. 265's are not much bigger than the 245's......

I'm not too knowlegdeable about OME part numbers and the lift they give but it will be easier to predict what your ride height will turn out to be and easier to locate the parts and put together.

No, that rear shock isn't holding the springs down. Compared to option "a" above, you'll have a harder time locating exactly what you need and since the springs will be used the possibility of you getting the exact lift you need is going to be more difficult but using the chart on the lift FAQs should get you close.

c) For the front I am considering ditching the current spacer set up and replacing the front shocks with a matching set to what I put on the rear + either getting a set of TRD coils (maybe $200 for procomp shocks and used coils) if I can find them locally at a parts yard OR maybe order the Toytec/Eibach front coils + procomps to get the full 3" lift on the front. I'm not too sure about the TRD coils but I think it's 2.5

Thanks for the info. Yep, that is the combo I'm leaning towards. I just wasn't sure about the rake since with the TRD front/LC coil rear. The LC coils I am looking at are the 7.5 wraps so 3-3.5" rear and the TRD's say 2.5" so could be a 1" rake. I see toytec has a top spacer for the front that gives an added 3/4" which would level it out. I was just trying to figure it out before I have to pay someone twice to put the front coils together as that's not a job I'll be doing myself. The rest I can handle with a little help. Off to price some TRD coils for a 2000-2006.

As far as tire sizes I'm not settled on what I'll be getting when my 265/75-16's (32x10.5) BFG MT wear out. The BFG KM2's come in the 285/75-16 @ 33x11.3 or also 255/85-16 for 33.3x10 but that might look a little narrow. Not sure I want that. For snow (most use) and dirt road type off roading + daily driving I was hoping to go taller but not too much wider. Can't seem to find anything that would measure 33x10.5 (though mine are the sport 5 star so 7.5" and might measure out).

Located a set of tundra TRD coils off a 2004 w/ 75k on them. Comes complete with Bilsteins for the tundra. Does anyone know if that stock shock will work on the 4Runner? I checked the billstein site but can't tell if it's a different shock or will be too stiff. These are $125 ea.

Other option is to get the Eibach/ToyTec springs and a procomp shock for $300. Thinking for my money the new set up is a better choice...

I wouldn't pay that much for them, unless $125 was for both sides.

That's what I was thinking too. I'd rather have just the springs and new shocks and by the time I do that the ToyTecs seem better.

Thinking fronts will be Toytec/Eibach and procomp shocks.

Rear a set of LC coils and Nitro Shocks from ToyTec here as well.

Narrowing things down here pretty well... Maybe. :Hmmm

I found a set of LC coils locally that is described by the yard as
double pink/dark blue/white or grey (thinking these are the 19.25 8 wraps)
double pink/lt. blue/white or grey (thinking these are the the 19" 7.5 wraps)

Figure I'm looking at 3.5-4" of lift from these.

If I go with the Toytec/Eibach and procomp shocks on front for a 3" lift I am thinking I might need the Toytec Front Top Plate Spacer Kit to add 3/4" to the front. Might not have a great way to tell until I get them and try them without if first and see how the rake comes out. Anyone know if I need the Toytec Front Top Plate Spacer Kit for an extra 3/4" so it rides level?

So now I am thinking instead for the rear I might get the OME 890 or 891 and new shocks. Might cost more but I want the level ride. Cost for that would be $250-270 and I can probably use it with my current front set up spacers until I can afford the front lift above.

:hmmm

FYI, I just picked up a set of 2004 Tundra front coils and shocks for $130 total (with tax), so I'm sure you can get them near the same price. If not, haggle them down or go somewhere else. If you wait, you might be able to find someone parting them out on Craigslist for even cheaper! Good luck!

How much lift are you expecting to get from the Tundra set up? Are they the TRD coils?

I've pretty much settled on the OME 890 coils and new shocks for the rear.

Front is still being debated in my brain - looking at either a used TRD setup w/ new shocks or just a set of new Toytec coils and new shocks.

I want a level ride so after I do the rear at 3" I'll see how it mates to the front I have now with the Revtek 3" set up and go from there.

how much did you find those LC coils for?

I know where some 7.75 wraps are right now for about $80 shipped to your door...maybe cheaper.

Mine has the RevTek 3" in front and OME 891's in the rear... use to sag in the rear with the RevTek 2" spacers. Sits level now. Here is a pic for easy reference.

The local ones are $70 for the pair but they are double pink/Lt blue/whit & double pink/dark blu/white so 7.5 & 8 wrap (19" & 19.5") which I'm thinking are 3.5-4" lift.

Are your 7.75 wrap LC's the orange, orange white? How much lift will they give?

Excellent Info. Thanks! That is what I am looking for. How's the ride with the 891's? I don't carry extra weight too often or two much more than a motorcycle trailer so I was planning to get the 890's. Any reason to go with the 891's if I am not carrying the extra weight?

Also just noticed your sig says 285/75/16 BFG AT KO's - any rubbing? Should measure 33x11.5 give or take.

Hey I haven't seen anyone mention the height adjustable bilstein's. Just wanted to make sure ya know you can run these with the TRD coils and get an extra couple of inches.

$155 plus shipping from ebay:

2 Bilstein Struts 05-11 Toyota Tacoma 0-2.5" Front lift - eBay (item 250779425123 end time Mar-27-11 05:36:27 PDT)

Same exact one's that are on my ride as we speak.:D

Also, yes the billy's that come with the TRD coils (orig on tundra, also bilstein) fit as well (eye to stud). So I guess you could also just use those and a spacer for more lift but maybe not ideal for progressive rate coil (not sure bout that).

Hmmm.... is that level? Seems 2.5 in front on the bilstein/tundra set up and LC coils in rear would give a rake to the front. No?

I got the OME kit from Toytec, the standard coils. Not sure of the number right now... I got the 3" kit. It's like a pogo stick with no weight in back. I'm not exaggerating.

If you got the standard kit that would be the 906's for the rear @ 2". Then it has a choice of shocks. Sounds like you might have the shocks for added weight. I'd check what you ordered cause that doesn't sound right.

891's are for added weight, at 3". That is according to the website. I have the 890's and I still need extra weight. Those 906's are for the 2" lift.
