My new 4Runner - and a few questions.

I bought my first 4Runner in 2006 and decided there was no better choice for my next car. I bought my 2nd 4Runner yesterday - a 2014 SR5. I thought about the Limited, but felt like the head and legroom in the SR5 was much better.

Here she is:

I have a few questions about the differences I've noticed between the 2006 and 2014 models. I know some of these are probably answered in the megathreads, but I'm sure someone wont mind answering.

• I noticed that starting the 2014 is different. In the 2006, if you turned the key even slightly the start sequence would complete automatically. In the 2014 I need to hold the key in start until the engine starts - old school style. Anyone else notice this change?
• The ride seems better. This could be because the 2006 needs suspension work, but it could be a design change. Has anything substantial changed with the 2014?
• There have been several accessory improvements. For example the windshield washer sprayers are now very efficient in covering the entire windshield. Anyone notice other changes that I haven't caught yet?

I used to have an '06 as well. Toyota left out some great features with the 5th gen. Bump to start (as you mentioned), locking center diff on the SR5, automatic "snug down" of the rear hatch, aluminum spare (now steel), interior back up mirrors adjacent to the rear hatch and automatic climate control to name a few.

That being said, I think the 5th gens are better trucks. The ride is not as "wallowy", the engine is more powerful and I believe the approach and departure angles are better (at least on the '14's).

the limited shouldn't have any less or more head or legroom than a trail or sr5.. the seat might have been adjusted differently if it's up high it doesn't go as far back as if it's set in the lowest position

Just noticed these as well. No biggie just curious why they were left out. I haven't looked at the spare - it's a different wheel?

It does. I'm 6'7" so it's easier for me to notice. Any time a car has a sun/moon roof there is a decrease in headroom because the mechanism takes up space. Also, the Limited dash has some features that cause it to jut out a little farther than the SR5.

well.. it goes without saying that one equipped with a moonroof vs without would have less headroom.. a 2010 vs a 2014 limited vs limited are the exact same specs (measurements) inside

if i recall correctly most Sr5's have moonroofs so when you said "the sr5 had more headroom" i was like.. what is he talking about lol

Sunroof vs no sunroof is the only thing that would matter. Legroom same. Hip room same. Everything else between models as far as people room, same. 3rd row takes rear room though.

I picked up mine yesterday and the first thing I noticed having traded in a 2004 Tundra for it was the "old style" starting. I got so used to the bump start that I'm having to retrain myself to hold the key until it starts. Some people don't like it but I liked the bump start.
