Hi guys,
Im new to trucks and toyotas both, but just picked up an 89 runner and love it. Paid $1700. Way more fun to drive than my last car (04 forester). I plan on using it as my DD but now that I've been in it for a week I doubt I'll be able to stay away from the trails (although probably not anything too crazy). Its got 230k miles on it, but the guy I bought it from changed the head gasket and said the inside of the cylinders looked almost new so...who knows. Runs great, no strange noises and hits 80 mph on the highway no problem. And its got lockers on the front!
Anyways, Ive got a couple questions for you guys. First one is simple; where do I put the green wire from the tachometer (it came with one but doesn't work and the green wire just hangs loose). Pics included. I read something about the negative terminal on the ignition but please assume I am car re****ed and don't know where that is.
Otherwise, what else should I be looking to replace to make sure I get as many miles as possible out of it? And if I've got a few grand to put into it, what mods/fun stuff would you guys recommend doing first? The back leaf springs are almost flat...should that be at the top of the list and how much should that cost? Or should I try and redo the suspension? The front looks like its been worked on before. Im not trying to get crazy lift on it (yet) but maybe a little more would be nice.
A soft top is probably in the cards pretty soon, any recommendations?
