My new (to me) 4Runner

I just picked this up the other day for a cool $1000. I was looking for a beater to drive to work and back, but now I'm pretty excited to have a 4x4. My only plans at the moment is to do the body work, and get it ready for some mild off roading. I was hoping to find one with the 4 banger, I understand that the 3.0l v6 has a issue with head gaskets blowing, and that its a huge job to fix, but for 1000$ I'm still happy.

Anyway this is it here




I thought I got a pretty good deal on it. It has lots of new parts. Rad, clutch, brakes, tires, and some front end work but not excatly sure what.
It also came with a set of 235/75 BFG Mud-Terrain's. The tires look like they have quite a bit of tread left. I'm thinking of selling the and getting something a bit bigger, but we'll see.



So what do you guys think? Was this a good deal?

Looks like a good deal. Those 2nd gens are a dime a dozen in Ca. after the head gasket blows, so don't overheat it....ever.
 
For a G u did well grasshopper! Those tires look to have some life left, why not just use 'em up while u go about fixing everything else. When ur ready, get some 31s or 32s BFGs. As for the HG blowing, I heard running headers will alleviate the problem by eliminating the crossover pipe.(?) IDK, hopefully fourwd1 will educate us on this as he is extremely knowledgeable.

PS. Go to Toyota's website, and just check for open recalls. The recall (SSC V06) for the head gaskets will never expire, as long as it hasn't been previously performed. There was also an LSC (Limited Service Campaign) that would of expired years ago, but there is always that chance. I just performed one last year.
 
I think you did well--those tires alone (the BFG's) are worth half of that used. I agree with QC on the tires--slap 'em on and use 'em up while you focus your money on any other issues. You can always step up later, after you've gotten used to how it drives and what you'd like to do with it. The head gasket is a heat-related issue in most cases, caused by the close proximity of the bizarre factory crossover exhaust pipe, which cooks the heads at the back side. Headers, while expensive for that model, are a good way to help avoid issues, as they'll direct the heat downward--plus they'll add a little power, and make sure you get the most out of any other engine mods you do (that crossover is a MAJOR power restrictor--one of Toyota's rare stupid ideas). Thanks for all the advice and replies! I'm not too worried if about the head gasket. It'll give me a good escuse to drop in a 350 small block. lol.
I picked up some rims through work and mounted those BFG's on em. I cant remember the name of the rims, they're just plane jane steel rims, but they look good and I got them for $49 each. One thing sweet about working in the automotive industery is that I save about 50% off any automotive part.



After getting those tires on I couldnt resist getting it filthy
