well I started my front end rebuild tonight, I picked up some swaybar bushings and steering rack bushings from wheelers, and some kyb monomax shocks and kyb strut mounts to start off with, I ran into some problems well one problem in particular.... Every goddamn nut and bolt has been rounded off or is so rusted that it would almost strip off if you tried to loosen it I took a video with my cellphone if you wanna take a peek, but right now im kicking myself for buying a 4runner from the northeast heres my video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWp1GXAVXxM&feature=g-upl

welp... your video is set to private... and spraying everything down the day before with penetrator usually helps with the rusty stuff.

i fixed the video, but i did spray everything down with a penetrating oil beforehand but the 3 nuts up top on the strut mount are just so corroded/ previously rounded off i can get any type of 6-12- or spline drive to grab it. im thinking im probably gonna have to use a cut off wheel and then hit it with an air chisel

Pick up a set of nut extractors they work great and will save you a lot if time they can be had for like 30 bucks a set.

I had a lot of rust problems like this on my previous truck, as it had lived in Chicago most of its life. I ended up selling it and buying a southern truck, my life has been much easier. But i feel your pain, i cant tell you how much i struggled with rusted bolts.

A torch is useful removing stuck strut nuts (or any stuck not for that matter). Be sure to temporarily relocate the ABS sensor wire and use appropriate heat shielding (I use a small piece of sheetmetal cut to fit behind) Even just a propane brazing torch is good enough although you have to be sure to heat it long enough. And don't forget not to finish the last few threads with your bare hands once it comes loose!

Coke works good as well just put some one it and let it sit a few hours or a day if really bad.

so i sprayed it down again this morning before work, hit it with the torch and used a stripped nut remover and i got it off :guitar2: i had cut the sway bar straps tho haha

got it all buttoned back together with new monomax shocks and i noticed the swaybar was bent, must have been from the high speed off road jaunt i did awhile back, but i didnt bother putting it back on cause the end links were toasted, im gonna order the addco swaybar for the front i think :driving:
