My Trip to Ouray

Day 2 Blue Lakes

Went on a hike to Blue Lakes today. It's a really beautiful place. The hike itself is 8.6 miles round trip. 9 mile to trailhead. They consider this hike a 14er. Which I believe to for more advanced hikers. Well they lied. It's about 14 miles straight up! lol. It took us 3 hours and 15 mins to get up there and about just under 2 hours to get down. On the way up I stopped about 25 times because I was out of air and breath! Otw down my toes were pressed against my new hiking shoes so much they started to hurt and which never has hurt in my life were my hip flexors! Mind you I have done this trail twice before. It's a ***** getting old. My wife who seems to think there is a prize for getting up there the fastest and is always dissappointed because she has to wait on me and nobody is at the end to giver her anything. SO in the long run we hiked up 3+ hours to stay there for about 15mins. It was freaking cold and windy. Had to put on our jackets. Our co pilots took it in stride and played in the water the whole time. Here are some pics from the trail and lake. If you think you want to do this and are not in optimal shape, or come from living at sea level for 25 years it will make your toes hurts and make you very tired. You may feel like your 75 when you finally get out of the car. I don't but I heard someone say it in the car. lol. PS I have to decided to name this trail The Bridge on the River Kwai trail because I have named the Perimeter Trail the Bataan Death March.

Ouray is awesome- we are are here now. Tons jeeps like always - a small crew of built Xterras- but have only seen 4 or so 4 runners - tan at the gas station - white w/Texas plate at hot springs and a black stocker. We are rolling in a black 16 with roof top tent. We ran mineral creek to animas to California Gulch to Corkscrew with a few side trips. Some dude came blazing past us on mineral in a bone stock new Tahoe- complete with stock tires and that huge plastic valance that hangs below the front bumper. Just beating the piss out of that thing- super weird- caught a group of 8 built CJ's and they were also saying wtf as the Tahoe
Passed them on lower mineral in the narrow spots. Saw a rolled atv below Engineer pass too. We'll keep an eye out as the inferno orange should be easy to spot -enjoy your trip.

Most all hotels are dog friendly here. It's a dog friendly town. I've stayed at Best Western, Comfort Inn and Chalet in. Have been using Homeaway to stay the last few years.

Day 3 Crystal Lake

We went really easy yesterday because the dogs feet were sore and had a few cuts from the previous days hike. So we went to Crystal Lake/Hayden trail and went fishing. I have two pics from the lake. Unfortunately didn't catch anything to take pictures of.

Sweet! Good luck and be safe! They have stickers in some of the stores that have the name of the trail and elevation. If you are into putting stickers on windows, bumpers, etc

Day 4 Last Dollar Rd

We decided to do Last Dollar Rd today. We've done it before but since the dogs feet were a little torn up... It starts outside of Ridgway and ends up in Telluride. Well, using a trail book even we didn't make it all the way there on the trail. Somehow we managed to let out on Highway 62 and drive the remaining miles on the freeway. Anyway, tried to help some guys who were trying to help a bull that had fallen and couldn't get up lol. He was up against the fence and we rolled him several times but he just wouldn't get up. So somebody contacted the ranch owners family and a guy came down and said another person was coming with tractor to pull him off the fence.
