How does one check the fan clutch. Never seen it come above half except that one time i had a jetski on the front. Now being more vigilant with a scan gauge. The intake air temp was 189 at the time i was 227 i was idle with ac. Isnt the cooling temp sensor a known issue with higher milages? I am at 242k

I just did a video on how I tested and replaced my fan clutch. Something is very wrong with your coolant temps. You should not be seeing anywhere near 227.
In the order of easiest and least expensive, do the following:
1) Check your coolant level. If it's low, investigate a possible leak.
2) Make sure your radiator cap is intact and it's an OEM one. I just helped another member resolve higher than normal coolant temps and his cap was broken and not holding pressure. Missing parts were inside the radiator. Got a spring to come out but the other parts are still in there somewhere. He chose to replace the radiator so no biggie.
3) If the coolant level and cap are good, the next most affordable option is to drain the coolant and replace the thermostat. Make sure you buy OEM, get a new gasket and install the jiggle valve pointing downward at the 6 o'clock position.
4) if the thermostat wasn't the culprit, the next thing I'd check is the fan clutch and maybe just replace it. StreetCreeper said his fan clutch passed all the tests he did on his but his higher temps were definitely due to a subpar fan clutch.
5) Replace the radiator. It's the most expensive but it's easy to replace.
BUT, you could check the fan clutch first and if it does show signs it's worn out, you could buy a new fan clutch for $90 through Rock Auto. The only problem is my fan clutch did show signs it was wearing out but putting in a new fan clutch did nothing for my temps. My temps were a little higher than I was use to seeing and I was wondering if it was the fan clutch going out or just a case of warmer ambient temps in my area of California. It was just the warmer ambient temps and my fan clutch was still doing it's job.
