My wife's catalytic converter was cut off her 14 limited

This got me paranoid now. Is there a skid plate or anything similar to cover that area offered for 5th gens? I searched some keywords and found that a member here had to modify an aftermarket version made for Tacomas because the company that makes it doesn't offer one for 4runners.

Sucks! Sorry to hear you're stuck going through the hassle. We had two stolen from our '95. First time the truck was parked outside our home and then a month later while at work. The second time the truck was parked right in front of the employer's security building when it was taken. Pretty ballsy! Ends up 6 other trucks were violated that same day in the parking lot.

Was just talking to my dad about it; one of his coworkers accord (yep, of all cars) had the cat stolen.
Pretty sure if this were to happen to me, i'd just throw a cherry bomb/o2 emulator on there and call it a day

That sucks. Sorry man. Just had it happen to a friend - I replaced it for her. She works at a god damned cancer center! What kind of low life goes to the cancer center at night to steal stuff? For sure a sawzall. Idiot managed to hit the o2 sensor and had to try again.

My solution would be more along the lines of a properly placed bait car with a claymore than an electric shock.

Yes. These people are junkies. They want quick cash. If it's hard to get, they'll move on. If police gave two shits about it they would catch them. It's not exactly brain surgery to figure out where they're going to sell them. Even large cities only have a few recycling centers that take them.

Happened to me on my 02 4runner sitting in the parking lot at work in broad daylight... GRRRR...

Cost me close to $1100 with insurance because they pro-rated the cats and I wanted toyota parts, not aftermarket.

Was told by the insurance company that they like the trucks because they are easy to get under them and they like toyotas because they are said to have more platinum in the cats than others...

I'm leaving work today when my wife calls and says her 4R sounds like a "motorcycle" and the dash was lit up like a christmas tree. Turns out someone crawled under it while she was at work and chopped it off with a sawzall and tore the wiring for the O2 sensor. Sounds like she's driving a farm truck. I've already filed a police report and an insurance claim, it's going to cost us $250, but more importantly it's a pain in the ass to get fixed with our schedules.

At least they left us nice clean cuts...

She works in healthcare providing care to underserved communities that are mostly medicaid. She was in Independence Mo on that day working about 100 feet away from her parked car.
