N-Fab step-up / running boards for Trail Edition

As long as its on a trail, just need a socket wrench and an 11mm socket (I think). That's pretty much it. I'm putting mine on tonight, I'll let you know what I use. Also gonna coat the bolts with locktite.

I got them on my SR5 using the spacers (required 12 + 13mm socket and wrench). If you are installing on a TE, you only need a 12mm socket if you're reusing the bolts in the frame. Bolts that come with the NFabs are 13mm.

Get some goggles too! The whole time I was under my truck I got showered with dirt.

Yes the square tube spacer is what you need to make this work 4"x4"x2" You can use the existing bolts to mount to the body or buy a little longer/stronger ones. Be sure to use loc tight on all the bolts mounting to the body. Yes you do have to drill 2 holes at top and bottom for the bolts. You would also need to get 12 nuts to mount the steps to the spacer. The hardware supplied doesn't come with the nuts. I got this all done at a buddy of mine who works at a fabricating shop. He did a little tack welding for added support where it meets with the body. May need to go to a fab shop or welding place to get the square tubing. Also be sure to paint all the spacers to prevent rusting before the install. Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for all the advice. I just fabricated my spacers and installed them along with the nFabs. They look awesome on my 2012 Silver Limited.

It was definitely not an easy process to make those spacers. For anyone else trying this, I wasted a ton of time trying to use a drill press at slow speed. I was able to get some small pilot holes drilled but I eventually just got frustrated and clamped them down and took my high speed hand drill to them. That actually went through it a lot better, although my 3/8 bit is now shot (well worth it though).
Mounting the spacers was also a pain in the butt. I wasted a lot of time there. Do yourself a favor and don't reuse any of the bolts. They are too short and hard to get in place in that short space. Get (12) 8mm-1.25X30mm bolts and the lock washers that fit them. They will be easier to manipulate into place. Also when starting, be sure to remove all of the bolts from the rocker supports and then put the 3 brackets in place and just get the bolts threaded a little way in before tightening any of them down.

Cost of project: apprx. $411.27

NFabs: $350.85 @ 4 Wheel Parts
(6) 4X4X2 spacers $38.02 @ a local Metal shop (They cut them to 2 inches for me)
(12) 8mm-1.25X30mm bolts @ $.70 -> $8.40 from Home Depot
(12) 8mm lock washers - $3.00 (I forget the exact price)
(12) 8mm-1.25 nuts - $3.00 (I forget the exact price)
3/8 Drill bit - $8.00

Can you post some pics of the spacers and of them installed? I'm trying to decide what route to go. This or Opor sliders or just some Westin tube steps. I wont be doing any serious offroading so I don't actually need sliders but I do was a decent step and hate the look of my limited side steps.

What I like about the sliders now, is that they help to protect against door dings from people who don't really care about others property in parking lots.
I.E.- While I was sitting in my truck looking up some direction. An elderly lady & friend pull up next to me in a Benz. The lady in the passenger seat just flings her door wide open nailing my sliders. I looked at her like WTF. All she did was close her door and walk away. As I look at her door where she made contact with my sliders. There was a indentation at the edge of her door that now was making contact with the back passenger door. I took it as, that's what you get for being inconsiderate.

Here is a picture I took with my phone. I'll try to get some better ones, but it, along with the others in this thread should give the general idea. Look on the 2nd page of this thread and Keemonrunnin has posted some good pics of the underside and the brackets. Mine look exactly the same.

2011 trail..bolted right on to factory mount holes.. one funny thing couldn't use both mount holes on front bracket. would only line up one bolt. love the look and quality but thought they were power coated. if they were worst job ever. after about two years here in NJ big time peeling lots of rust. tried to contact N-fab no answers gave up

Curious, do you have the "hybrid" sliders listed on their site or the "X-wing" sliders? I'm trying to decide between the N-Fab nerf bars or a slider but want a decent bump out for exactly the reason you mention. Thanks!

I have the very limited edition bump out sliders Demello made a few years ago. There was a situation going on between DO and MT which resulted that DO had to discontinue making these sliders from his production.

Difference between Trail and others models for mounting?

Hi,

I'm a newbie and trying to find the difference between the Trail and other models as it relates to the mounting of running boards? The few running boards that I like only fit the Trail models I get significant mud up the doors and thinking that a combination upgrade of mudguards and running boards might help.

Hey man, welcome. Past 2013 the SR5 and trail are the same body style for running boards. Before 2014, the SR5 had the same rocker panels as the limited. Take a look at the pic of the white limited a few posts above yours. Look right underneath the door. There''s a body panel that is not on yours. The body panel makes the truck depth bigger which requires a spacer for the running boards to clear the body panel. 2010-2013 trail and 2014-2016 trail and sr5 running boards will fit you perfectly.

I was debating doing the N-Fab RKR "rock sliders". However back in pages 5-8 people say they do not fit the SR5... Curious if anyone has an update?

On the N-Fab website it says 14-16 SR5?
