Just called Napa for two CV axles and for some reason there new cv axles are $88 and their remanufactured cv axles are $130. Both cost are without bringing in my axle with a torn boot.

He looked and couldn’t tell if the remanufactured one was an oem shaft.

Does anyone know why the reman from Napa is more expensive than the new one?

The reman price includes the core charge. It would be cheaper if you brought the axle back.

Okay so if I re-boot them what boots would work best? Toyota down the street was 50 bucks a side, but I can get them at Vatozone for like 20 a side. Would the parts house boots be of decent quality?


Haha the 2wd is still here, it just gets to relax more. I bought the new one from a member here, Travolous, he lives right down the street. I will get a build thread going at some point.

The Toyota OEM boots are a higher quality than the auto parts store stuff. Id suggest sourcing a junkyard one (and rebooting) or buying a new one and installing that. Then reboot your axles and go from there.

If you have a a garage space and can afford to have your T4R down for a few days I'd definitely just suggest a Toyota reboot on both axles.

Just buy the Napa Lifetimes. Nothing wrong with them, and if they do break, guess what? Free replacement!

What does the boot have anything to do with it comes to a reman? The boots are new boots on remanned cv axles. The ideal solution is to reboot your OEM axles with OEM boots (they are stronger material).

CVJ looks like they make a good product though. I'm not sure if you can just get the boots from them though. Don't really want to ship something and then have to wait for it to get back.

FWIW, I've got 12 months/14K miles on a set of new NAPER CV axles. The boots haven't fallen apart, nor have the CV joints. IF I would have had the choice at the time, I would have scrounged a set of OE shafts and rebooted them w/ the Toyota boot kits. I had to get the truck through a state inspection and the aftermarket shafts on the truck were in horrible shape, the NAPA parts solved the problem for the time being.

If your truck isn't lifted, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had new Napa axles on since October 2015 for 20k miles. No leaks and they've lived through 3" of lift the whole time with some rare mild offroading. Knock on wood.

Previous non-OEM axles(bought it that way) we're leaking and choose the easy way out with the Napas.
