I am looking for the NAV wire hack. I did this on my GS300 and would like to do the same on the TE. I have searched but don't seem to find any info.

I just purchased the truck and don't yet have the Service Manual. Can someone post up the wiring diagram for Nav unit. I need to find the speed input wire so I can add a switch.

The wiring diagrams have a link in the modifications sticky thread as TIS FSM for 2010 4Runner.

Toyota 4Runner Factory Navigation Override and Unblock Bypass Module is much cheaper than Prestigious' price tag! But I don't know what the differences are between the two. Maybe one gives more features??? :shrug:

This is a huge help. Looks like a simple switch won't work because of the GPS. I will start working on this. The module JA built may work but I'm sure the Nav unit is different between 4th and 5th Gen.

Has anyone done this on a 5th Gen and is the Nav unit different between model years on the 5th Gen?

I don't have factory nav so I can't say. However there have been reports that some of the '12 stereo wiring has changed. This would imply the nav has changed for '12 as well.

There are quite a few threads related to this, my build thread being one as Deekoi stated.

The 4th gen T4R nav and 5th Gen T4R nav units are different, but the bypass module works the same. Its just a matter of finding the VSS input to the nav unit, and splicing in one of JA's nifty modules. The reason a simple switch to temporarily interrupt the VSS signal will not work is because the vehicle then see the GPS signal and will still lock you out. JA's module actually uses a 555 timer and a little potentiometer to output a VSS signal that simulates the vehicle going 5 km/h, which is the cutoff speed for the "nanny lockout" to engage. This way the nav unit still sees the car moving through the GPS and the VSS, but it is not fast enough to lock out, so you get the freedom to use all the features in your nav unit.

I would bet dollars to doughnuts that your 12' nav unit is nearly the same if not exactly the same as my 11' nav unit, you may have a different colored VSS wire, or it maybe in a different plug, but that is as easy as checking a wiring diagram. The module works on 4th and 5th gen 4Runners the same. No difference.

Completed the JA NAV Module Hack

I just finished the NAV module as designed by JA. Thanks a ton JA!!!

The 2012 wiring is different than 2010 so I had to find the SPD input wire. I don't yet have the wiring diagram so I can't specify plug/wire #, but have identified it in the pict below. This is a must do mod as there are no longer any lockouts when driving. Total cost for parts is about $15 from Jameco.

When you did the JA Nav Bypass thing, how did you decide which wire was the speed input?
Is there some markings on the Nav Unit? Are there identifiers on the connectors, i.e. "G18"?

I am looking into doing this myself and also have a 2012 Trail. I also have the wiring Diagrams and Manuals that nashman made available, but.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I just built this sim box a few weeks ago, works perfectly. I will try and look for you
