Navigation input override

I've searched all the forums for a definitive answer to the navigation override issue but I am still unclear... does anyone know if simply cutting the speed senor wire and wiring it through a switch will "fool" the nav system and allow input? This is what I did on my Infiniti FX and it works great. I prefer a switch to the hybrid DVD option so I don't have to do the hack everytime I start the car. I've read conflicting posts about whether a cut-out switch for the speed sensor will get the job done. Any help appreciated!

Secondly, has anyone else had success with Capt Jack's hack for v. 7.1??? I tried it but could not get to the service menu.

I am actually working on that as my next mod. Short answer is yes that will work BUT only for 30 seconds at a time. Then system resets and you need to cycle the switch again. I am going to build the circuitry needed to mimic the speed sensor so the nav thinks you are travelling under 5mph and therefore allows unlimited input time access, w/o cycling the swich. There is much info on various non-4Runner forums out there describing a few ways to accomplish this. I am going to put some of my ideas in combination with some of those out there see how it works. Stay tuned.

On the nav screen, touch the dvd button on the top right hand corner. You will then go to the screen that shows what version you have. now touch the top left corner, then bottom left corner, then top left corner, then bottom left corner, and lastly bottom right corner. you will then be in the overide screen. Hold down the override button for about 5 seconds. Done.

This trick doesn't work on the later/newer DVD map disc and thus the hybrid disc is needed. IIRC, the override button is not on the '07 4Runner nav.

As much as I want to get this done asap, it may take a (long) while as a) it is freezing in my unheated tight one car garage and b) hard to find time as my job requires OT at this time of the year.

I going to do the mod in three parts 1) nav override button to input while driving, 2) anytime backup camera button and 3) dvd a and dvd b video on the factory nav. Three buttons will go in the center console cutouts and look factory while the DAC will have to be relocated to the dash. At least that is what i am expecting to be accomplished.
