hey i just got an 06 SR5 and i want to get an in dash navigation. ive been reading a lot about which ones are good and which to stay away from and i think i have narrowed my search to the Kenwood dnx-6160

I am wondering if anyone has experience with this or have any suggestions. I am curious as to how it fits, looks, and if i will have to move the display underneath.

I was also wondering about how much I should expect to get this installed... i plan to find one online and have someone to do it - hopefully - save some money by getting it at best buy and paying them to put it in.

lastly i was wondering if i can get a toyota one OEM or otherwise and how that might work.

Thanks!

I've got the DNX 9960 and I love the unit itself. My only beef with that is it takes awhile to load album artwork on the ipod so it takes 9 secs before I can skip to the next song. I know that sounds stupid but if you like to skip around that gets annoying. Go to kenwoodforums.com to see about that 6160. They have a lot of good resources on that site.

I had the avic f700bt in my old 4runner and loved it. I believe they have upgraded to the X series now, but I can definitely vouch for pioneer. You might want to check out avic411.com

Just got my 06' and looking into nav units. I think I have narrowed it down to the pioneer AVIC-X930BT. Just came out, not much input but everyone has been saying its great. Biggest thing is the iphone / ipod integration. If you have a iphone i would def go with this!

if you are simply looking for the best navigation then yes the kenwood is the bestchoice, the double din dash kit for those trucks is pretty good so any double din unit will look good and fit well. kenwood uses garmin navi software this year so they have the best nav, the pioneer nav is still pretty good but the i pod controll and user interface are much better. check out the avicz130bt it is not much more than the kenwood and much higher end. all depends on where your priorities are. i have last years pioneer in one of my cars and a kenwood excelon in another. the kenwood is very very slow to load and the i pod menue isnt as user friendly those are the same two complaints i get from my customers. they are the only ones but to some people those are big issues.

kenwood being the "Best" choice is a strictly personal opinion.
I can't stand their GUI, and teir maps, for example.

odly its not y personal opinion, it is just the average opinion of my customers i preffer the pioneer, but at least 8 of 10 people that i sell navigation to preffer the gps function on the kenwood. to someone who hasnt used a navigation before the garmin based map software is easier to use imo but i preffer all the rest of the user interface on the pioneer.

I agree with platinumb... solely for Navi, I probably wouldn't have the Pioneer Avic Z120BT. I probably would have gone with something else like Alpine or Kenwood. But my first priority wasn't Navi... it was more on the iPhone side. With that in mind the Avic is tough to beat.

I personally don't mind the Pioneer Navi, it is better than what I was used to (Garmin Nuvi). But I hear enough feedback on the system to surmise that there are likely better Navi options out there.

Every opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

I installed the DDX-616 into mine. Mine didn't come with nav, but it looks to be the same size/chassis as the one you mentioned. I ordered mine through Crutchfield and they sent me all the parts to mount it up like OEM and look good. The HU chassis was narrower than the OEM HU, so they sent adapters that screw to each side of the new HU to span the gap on the sides.
