Navigation buttons not working

Hello Everyone, I recently bought a 2008 Toyotoa 4Runner Limited.
I see that the navigation unit is having some issues. Three of the buttons(Menu, Dest and AM-Sat) don't work. Once in a day, they do work. But, 99% of the time, they dont. I press them and nothing happens. I don't even see an error code. Other buttons work well. But, I am able to use the steering wheel audio control button to access AM and SAT. Do you guys have any suggestions?

This is my first SUV and I am quite clueless. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Unplug the battery for a few. Hard reset sometimes works.

Thanks MaliciousClout. I will give that a try this evening.
Earlier today, my heart sank when I heard the price quote from Toyota to replace that unit for $4,500. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I truly hope this works.

First off this should be in the 4th Gen Section (4th gens are '03~'09), second... yeah the older navigation stuff is ridiculously expensive. You're better off going with a Scion Head Unit or a quality aftermarket one for a third of the price with more functionality than the factory navigation unit.

There's a few threads on swapping out for different head units in the 4th gen section.

Thanks BlackWorksInc n sorry about posting it in 5th gen forum. I will def look into replacing it with scion head unit. That looks like a good idea.
Btw, most of these after market navigation units seem to disable/not support the backup camera. Is that true? or can I find some where I can still keep the current backup camera?

Hi vishk,

You don't have to pay a dealership to replace Most 4Runner parts. They have your navigation system (4Gen 4R) on ebay, both new & used,

Best!
