Has anyone ever put in a navigation or overhead TV im looking to do both i have the viper alarm and remote start just want to add to it maybe headrest tv post pics please.

1000 People have put navigation in. I don't have a picture handy, but I have an Eclipse AVN 5435 in mine. Probably a pic early on in my build thread.
As for the overhead screen, I know an older couple at my parents church has one in their 3rd gen, so I know it's possible... Just not sure what all goes into it. I doubt much.

These days with prices being a s reasonable as they are, if your going to put in a new head unit with screen up front it only marginally more to have nav included and the brands are endless. Everyone will have their recommendations and their favorites.
Choose what best suits your purpose.
As for rear video, while aftermarket headrest monitors are cool, the models are always changing and evolving so parts for service will be an issue later on. My headrest is tilted totally forward so tis affects viewing angle as well.
Overhead just doesn't work with the sunroof in a 3rd gen. Too close to the rear passengers.
If this is just for the kids sake, the best bet is an iPad or something similar hanging from the headrest.

I forgot I had this picture of a guy a met online. He totally redesigned his dash to put his Nav in. He makes a good point...it's so hard to see our radio where it's located. He installed the Nav and couldn't never use it...so he did some modifications! Now works great...I've been thinking about it, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It's one of those...there's no returning once you start...

WOW!!!! I wish I had the skills to do this. I could pull off the stuff behind it but not the bezel make-over. I often have glare issues with mine because its so low.

No pics at the moment,but I do have an Alpine dual-DIN navi/dvd headunit in the dash.
In my past life as a dealership technician, I installed both overhead and headrest screens (complete replacement headrests with screens preinstalled), I recommend headrests over overheads. They're easier to install/uninstall. Overheads do not have a standardized sizing/installation system,so if your existing overhead goes bad and is no longer available,your replacement overhead will most likely not be a simple "plug and play".

Like I said...I've been hesitant to pull the trigger. This guy is all that and bag of chips. He also put in an LS3 w/ a supercharger and an L70 or L80 auto trans. He also built his own upper and lower "A" arms and front diff. An amazing fabricator...an a kick butt 4Runner!!

No guys...he's not on T4R. And unfortunately I can't remember where I ran across him. I know he was in the military stationed somewhere out in the SW?? He was a real nice guy, which I talked to him at some length. I'll look around and see if I can come across that forum again. If I find it...I'll share it hear with y'all guys. Sorry I don't have better news :-(

So I had to try the custom radio bezel.... and I am stoked with the results. I aimed it slightly toward the drivers seat. Its not perfect by any means because I have never done fiber glass. Also I finished it with a top coat of bondo. My sanding skills and patience for it being sub-par at best I decided to paint all the components of the center console and speedo bezel with 2 coats of black bed liner spray which looks pretty cool and hid all the imperfections. I have driven for about 10 hours with it and having the screen high is such an improvement, mostly for using my back-up camera and navigation. All I am waiting for is 2 Toyota Matrix round A/C vents to be delivered tomorrow. The behind the dash stuff was pretty easy too. Wires were plenty long enough to reroute for the radio. As for the A/C venting, just removed the curved top piece and capped it. Then cut a new hole in the old radio spot and added some new soft plastic 4 inch round tubing I picked up from Home Depot, made a plate to hold it in place aimed at the vents. 6 hours of work and it will likely become my favorite mod done to this truck.

What did you do to hold the head unit? I like the concept very much. I'm really curious to see what the display looks like on a sunny day though. Seems to me there is a lot of glare on the dash in mine.

I thought about glare as well but its actually less than the factory spot down low. Maybe due to having a straighter line of sight, not sure. I started with a small piece of sheet metal (old beer sign
) cut just a bit bigger than the radio size, and one small piece to cover the remainder of the cup holder slot. I then used a few pieces of sticky drywall tape to hold it all where I wanted it and then started to layer 2 layers of fiber glass over top, finished with a heavy coat of regular bondo. Then sanded, and sanded, and sanded.... Then 2 coats of bed liner spray paint. Fun project for sure, well except for the damn sanding. :ybrick:mfcjdwoyah

Not sure if you answered what I meant to ask, is the Head Unit bolted to something behind your custom bezel?

I too am interested how you held the head unit securely? One of the biggest reason I never did this.
