I was pretty close to purchasing the Camry Navi unit from oemvalue.com when I stumbled upon the Pioneer AVIC-N1 (http://www.avic-n1.com). This seems to be a better choice especially since it is about $150 less shipped. It retails for $1999 but it available from multiple sellers on ebay for about $1550 shipped. Anyone install this in their 4runner? I have a 2003 sport without JBL. Any comments or arguments on why I should get the factory Navi instead of this one? It has MP3 and DVD plus will hook up easier to an amp and sub which I have. I welcome any comments in helping me decide whether to get this unit or the factory one. Thanks.

I was told by a "sales person" that you cannot play a CD and use the map CD on a Pioneer AVIC-N1 simultaneously which seemed highly unlikely to me but I thought I'd pass that along just in case. I'm pretty sure there's at least one member that has the AVIC-N1 installed so he may be able to shed some light on the situation.

When I played around with an AVIC-N1 and compared it to a Kenwood NAV, I was a little disappointed with the N1's screen size and brightness/clarity but it seemed usable nonetheless.

I have the '04 Camry (not Solara since mine did not come from the dealer with the JBL, so I didn't need compatabiltiy with the JBL.) NAV in my '03 Sport. The voice navigation works great after hooking up the speed sensor wires. I also took the unit apart and changed the green LED's to orange. Looks great. Works great. VERY happy with it...Eventually I may add the rear camera, but not a priority at all...
I also will upgrade the speakers and perhaps install a second amp to drive the rear speakers and maybe a subwoofer....

I am kinda a newbee around here, but i have been around for 2 weeks or so since i bought my new 4runner. I had a 1991 4runner before this one. I studied all the nav systems very carefully, and for me as well as some of the others here i think it came down to that stock feel you get from the Toyota nav versus the total aftermarket look you get from others such as the Pioneers. My best bud owns a shop here called Auto Sounds, and he showed me everything out there. Both Haro's and the new one your looking at hide the monitor when not using nav, this is kool i guess. But i perfer the Screen there all the time, it really looks like it was a part of the car from factory. I think this should be one of your desiding factors, also how bad do you want a build in dvd player. Aftermarkets come with it, Toyota nav does not(yet). Also, keep in mind that the Toyota nav is one headunit, no secondary unit to unstall somewheres in car, most after markets like yours chosen does not. Haro obviouosly needed the dvd to power his kool headrests,, again a factor on making that choice. Hope this helps some

Thank you for all of your inputs. I am going to go with the AVIC-N1 mainly for the ease of hooking them up to my amplifier and after market speakers. Also, the $400 i will save will get me some nice addons to the Pioneer unit. Thanks again.
