Hey guys, just wondering if its necessary to run wheel spacers with stock 16'' wheels and 285/75 with the Toytec ultimate kit? any input, thoughts or opinions would be great as well. thanks

Yes you usually have to run a wheel spacer to run a 285 tire. Its because the tire is to wide and hits the UCA when the lift is installed. The lift wont help clear the wider tire. So an offset rim or tire spacer is needed. With my truck I had to run some spacers to clear.

did your runner w/ 1.25 spacer allow the clearance without hitting the uca?

The true answer.
Maybe.
I know people that ran 285 BFG ATs without spacers with 3" of lift. All tires measure differently. Some are not as wide as others.

By the way. The more front lift, the more the UCA rotates into the tire.
Most tires will rub the UCAs at full droop.

Yes it allowed for clearance and stopped the rubbing on normal driving and full droop. But like he said above me my answer is not the real answer. Just try the 285's, if they rub buy spacers. My 265's had barely any room and rubbed at full droop also. But again I always run mud terrain.

The answer is definitely maybe.

I have factory 16" wheels and 285x75x16 General Grabber AT2 (like BFGs).

I ran them with a 1.25" spacer and while that did separate the wheel from the UCA guess what??????

When I bottomed out on a hard dive I bent my fender because the wheel was to far out. Also the punch weld rubbed badly even after trimming and pounding.

Then I lost the wheel spacers and I now clear the pinch welds fine and my tire fits inside the wheel well.

Assuming stock wheels and no spacers ....There is one important thing though. You MUST keep your F sway bar attached in order for the UCA not to rub the wheels. Without the sway bar they rub..

This is all applicable to the stock wheel back spacing.

.

The swaybar has zero effect on any rubbing. A swaybar does not limit travel or change the amount of compression or droop. The shock length limits droop and the bumpstops limit compression. The swaybar restricts travel (one wheel compresses and one drooped) but with both wheels compressing (like off a jump) or both drooped (like a wheelie) there is no limiting of travel.

Typically you will rub more often without a swaybar than with (same places just less often). This is due to the fact that without the swaybar, the wheels can truly work independently.

285s under full compression usually rub the tops of the fenders. This is where a small body lift helps.

Also the swaybar changes nothing in regards to the spacing of the wheel to the UCAs.

With much respect, I have to say I disagree. I now believe that truck sway can affect the way the wheel articulates with respect to the UCA. This is especially prevalent on hard turns.

My UCA is about 1/2 to 3/4" inch from my tires. I drive around for two weeks with my sway bar on. No UCA tire rubbing.

I took the sway bar off and started hearing rubbing on any turn with major lean. Say going fast on a circle on ramp. I check after a few days and my tires have small marks and my UCAs have paint worn off where the 285s were rubbing on turns.

I just put the away bar back on with some fresh rubber bushings.

I've been driving it around town and NO RUBBING.

Sitting flat it does not change anything but on turns it does limit movement.

Brian ,where did you get your sway bar bushings ? (not thread jack, just a quick question since its being discussed)Thanks.also interested in this subject as i planned in the future to run a 285. does spidertrax still offer a 1.25 spacer not seeing them available lately.

I just bought the factory rubber bushings since they are quieter than the poly ones.

Go to camelback Toyota online parts website.

It could be that my stock UCAs and LCAs which now have over 225k miles have some play in the bushings and allow what I described above to happen.

But that's just how it is on my truck. I just put the sway bar back on two days ago.

With much respect, I have to say you are wrong. Sway can affect the way the wheel articulates with respect to the UCA.

That is what I said. As the wheel droops, the UCA rotates closer to the tire.
The swaybar will restrict the IFS movement. It does not limit it. When the vehicle leans more thru turns the one wheel compresses and the other droops. This is exaggerated by the lack of a swaybar. The rubbing is not produced by the lack of a swaybar, it does happen more often.

(I have run 285 but prefer the 265/75-16, current tire)
I drive on road with my swaybar but disco for offroad. I like the control on road but the ride and traction is increased without a bar when offroad.

im leaning to the duratracs. anybody had issues with these. im sure because i have seen tons with them just havent poled them about the rubbing with them

I just put 285 70 17 duratracs on my 04 two days ago and there is definitely rubbing on the UCA. When I stuck my finger behind the tire there was about a half inch space from the UCA but when the wheel is turned it rubs a lot. I'm going to order some spidertrax and hopefully that will solve my problems

Do you have the sway bar installed?

:pop2:

I am running the ultimate lift W/ 2" body 285/75/16's AT2 Grabbers and spidertrax in all 4 corners, no rear swaybar and love the ride and the handling, It is a bit softer than expected with the hardest option available but what a difference from factory worn out stuff, those guys and girls at Toytec put together a nice package. I never ran without spacers but no rubbing going on here.

I been thinking of going back to 5 stars, and I was wondering if I we'll need spacers of I run 285's with stocks rims and aftermarket LR uca's?
