Hi guys, I haven't posted in a while but i need some help. I have a 1999 4runner SR5 limited with a sunroof.
Short story: I messed with my sunroof to much and now it has more of a chance to leak in the rain. Can I use some painters tape or something to temporarily seal the roof till the rain goes away this week?
Long story: When I bought this 4runner 3 years back every thing was working fine, the roof opened and closed. Then a year later the sun roof didn't work any more and I didn't really pay any mind to it seeing as I didn't use it all that often. But then the problem started, it started leaking when it rained. I looked into it last summer and saw all the post about the drain tubes and was able to unscrew my sun roof and clean those out. I also got to the motor and found out that it ran fine, it was something in the gears or cables that was jamming. well that worked great until this year it started up again and I've run into another problem. I worked on my truck this weekend and tried to get the sun roof out and ended up striping one of the torque screws and one of the Philips screws while trying to take it off (these screws are so dang tight.) Well I tried messing with it like that and got no where so I just put the screws back in and decided to come back to it from a different angle at a later time. Well now the window budges more that it did before I started this weekend and as luck would have it, we're suppose to get a rain storm this week. Can I use painters tape to temporarily seal the roof just till the rain goes away? My next plan is to take the headliner out and and go at it from there. I tried to start that today but ended up stripping another screw while trying to remove the front grip on the front passenger side pillar. I will attempt to fix it soon again i just have to get some strip remover tools get some more spare time. I'm open to any ideas, sorry for wall of text.
