Need Advice on Welded LCA Cam Bolts

Hey guys, this was discussed in my earlier thread but I thought I would post up a new thread for future reference.

I've gotten a better look at this now that I'm back in Wisconsin. The front and rear cam bolts on the right side are BOTH spot welded. I don't know if the PO busted the tabs on the cam adjustment plates from hitting something or if the cam sleeve seized in the bushing in the LCA.

My plan is to replace the LCA bushings (OEM Toyota), Cam tab adjustment plates (from Total Chaos - don't think you can get these OEM), and LCA bolts, cams, and plate (OEM Toyota). I have access to welding and grinding equipment. Total cost about $250. Please check out my pictures of the issues and the parts I'm about to order and let me know what you think.

wow, I have never seen that before. It looks like the PO had some alignment issues and figured they would solve that for good. :-) You may be able to salvage the alignment cams, but I think your parts list is good. The TC cam gussets are very well built.

I have heard of some Chevy guys doing this after they lifted their trucks to keep the alignment in spec. Never actually seen it done on a Yota.

I have used the SPC cam bolts that JayRolla mentioned on my F150 when I lifted it (they don't have adjustable cam bolts) and they worked well.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and ordered the parts I listed above to the tune of about $270. If anyone has any advice on this job in particular let me know, I'm going to try to tackle it this weekend.

Well the good news is those look like some poor welds, so hopefully you won't have too much trouble grinding them away!

"Incompetents, invariably create work for people other than themselves"

Might not stay in alignment because the back side the cam in upside down and the welded side doesn't look like a cam but a washer.

I'd park it and delicately cut it off and replace with new parts. I'd do them all too, IMHO.

For what its worth...I just did my LCA bushings and considering the nightmare it is pulling the old bushings and sleeves if I had to do it again Id spend the money on new arms with the bushings already pressed in.

People have done this and the bushings just fail again. Unless you go OEM, but those get pricey.

I have the sleeves and cam bolts and such if you want them. They are used, but quite clean. Pay for shipping and they are yours.

Edit: Nvm on the sleeves, But I do have the cam bolts and the Cam-Nut thing for the other end.
