Need help 5th gen TE Toytec ultimate wheel/tire fitment

Hey all,

I'm brand new to the forum, spent some time searching and couldn't find a definitive answer to which wheel/tire set up will fit best on my 2010 TE after a Toytec ultimate or ICON stage 2 lift kit.

I'd like to put the 17x9 -6 offset KMC enduro wheels and 285/70/17 BFG MTs with minimal or no body mod, is this possible?

Thanks for the info, I had seen the fitment guide in another thread but it doesn't specify which wheel/tire sizes are appropriate after a 3"/2.5" suspension lift is installed. I've looked through some of the 5th gen build threads but didn't find what I was looking for there either.

I'm sure being a complete newbie to this forum doesn't help, there's probably a thread somewhere which deals with my exact question but I can't seem to find it. Thanks again for your reply.

That's because there is no perfect appropriate size of tire for any specific condition. Some run 285's with no lift. Some run 265's with 3" lift. Some lift in the front only. To beat it all even just running a different tire in the same size can be difficult. For example, you can buy "X" brand 285 tires that could be almost 1" difference in diameter than 285 "Y" brand just because of tread and lug design. Now, picking the right wheel backspace and offset? Believe it or not Toyota is using the perfect wheel as far as dimensions go. Most want to space the wheel further out for that "rugged" look but that makes for more rubbing. Getting a bigger tire and spacing it towards the UCA is tough because if not careful you will rub that too.

So there is a reason the Tire Fitment Guide is generic and purposely vague. Why? There are thousands of tire/wheel combinations from a dimensional standpoint that will fit the 4Runner and many of those will require modifications to keep the tires from rubbing. All the information on backspacing, offset, tire dimensions and the question of "will it rub" is answered in the tire fitment guide. Read the guide and the related links. Look at the stock wheel dimensions in the "notes" section of the guide. Compare that with your new wheel. After that you will then be armed with enough information to look through the build threads and see what mods were done to eliminate tire rubbing. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Maybe if you can find someone on the site that has those wheels you could compare the specs of the tire they run to what you want to run? That person might be able to say if they had to do other mods to make it fit. Just an idea...

Try searching for those wheels and PM the person for more info? I always add "5th gen" in front of what I'm looking for to get better results. Good luck could be a trial and error thing.

Yes you can run 285s

I run 285 70 r17 BFG AT TA KO on my 2012 Limited, with basic Pro Comp wheels, on an OME 3" lift. Had to trim some material in the wheel well, but nothing radical. Would be a good set up for going out to Polihale Beach!
