Need help choosing between 4 tires

Picking up my new 2015 SR5 today and I will be putting a small lift on it. Probably 5100s set at .85 with maybe some 2883 OME's in front and SAW or Toytec super flex in the rear. Probably 90% on road. I'd like it to look good with no fitment / rubbing issues if I do go off road. I'm looking into a few tire options. Getting a nice discount on a wheel and tire package at Discount Tire with the Level 8 MK6 rims so there are the choices:

Nitto Terra Grappler G2 - 285/70r17 - 44lbs - $185 / tire
Haven't seen many reviews / fairly new tire. Apparently decent in the snow and light for a 285.

Cooper ST Max - 275/70r17 - weight unknown - around $250. Heard great things about the tire - don't know how heavy, most expensive of the choices but size should be a good fit.

BFG TA KO2 - 275-70r17 - 55lbs - $207 / tire. Heard good things, look pretty good, heavy though

Goodyear Duratrac - either 255/75r17 or 265/70r/17 - 40 and 43 lbs respectively - $160-$175 per tire. Heard great things. Like the way they look. Smaller than the other options though.

Are you looking for anything particular from a tire besides looking good at the mall? Because that's a list of very different tires with very different weak and strong points.

Funny I was just about to update this thread. I don't want to go up to an E rated tire and didn't want something heavy. I'll be doing some off roading but nothing too tire shredding. I don't plan on hauling a lot of heavy stuff other than a few people and snowboards or camping gear once in a while. I want to keep decent fuel economy and not add a bunch of weight, and I want them to be quiet on the road and very good in snow.

I've decided to go with the Wrangler Duratrac 265/70r17 to keep the factory size with a more aggressive look and better tire. I'll be doing 5100s set on either .85 or 1.75 to level it out a bit. My biggest question now is what the difference is between two different sets of duratracs in that size? The two below are both available at Discount Tire. Any reason why I wouldn't go with the first option? They have a higher load rating, higher speed rating, are lighter, and almost $50 cheaper per tire. I assume option 2 has a beefier sidewall and tread depth is slightly more than the other - not sure what difference that would make.

Any updates on this thread from the OP? I'm having the exact same dilemma in reference to tires. What did you end up going with and how are they working out? If you had it to do over again, would you have made a different choice?

Ha! I just had the exact same dilemma/decision with the Duratracs. I ended up going with the more expensive option B (the LT - load C version). I hope I don't regret my choice.

Hello everyone. Im a new member looking for some help. I just picked up my second 4runner (2015 sr5) with the goal of lifting this one etc. My plan is: toytecs bilstein 5100 complete lift kit, not adjustable, at 3/2, light racing uca's, nitto trail grapplers at 285 65r18, and rockstar2 18 inch wheels. Here are my questions. With this set up, will i avoid rubbing, cutting and chopping problems. Also, i cant make heads or tails of the wheel offset and backspacing. The wheel comes ONLY in either 30 offset w 6.18 backspacing OR 0 offset w 5 backspacing. I would like the tires to be at or slightly out of the wheel well and without spacers. Can someone please give me the answer without refering to the charts which i dont understand or let me know if this works, issues, or problems? Thanks !!!

I have just purchased a 2015 SR5 4-Runner with stock tires that do not grip very well on the snow. I to am looking for an all terrain tire but was told when I entered the make and model that the BFGoodrich was good but the A/T tire was not specified for this model. Apparently it is getting hard to find these old tire style. They list it as not being made anymore. Any suggestions for additional makes of tires. Live in Longmont CO and we ski alot and his the normal hwy snow and ice. Also I go to Moab and run some of the lighter listed trails but some need some pretty strong tires. I was told the 10 ply tires were to heavy for this model. Thanks

E-rated tires (10 ply) are overkill for these vehicles. People do run them, it can be done, but it does compromise the ride and the extra weight (10+ lbs on each corner) negatively effects fuel economy and suspension wear. How much? I dunno.

These come in a C-rating, as do K02s in the same size (and are also available in 265/70 17 in this rating and E-rating). This is the "lightest" duty LT rating, just above P-rated tires (stock type of tire) which are sometimes considered B rated.

I'm also actively searching fro tires. Current plan is to go with the ST Maxx 255/75, which are slightly taller and narrower than the stock 265s. My next best option was going to be the 275 K02s, but I'm not sure if I want to take that plunge.

what are the oem tires that are unacceptable?

I'm 4unning the Falken AT3W and like them a lot.
They are good in snow and handle good in rain.

I opted for the ST Maxx here and got a good deal at NTB on them. Issue is they took 3 hrs to install and the tech was like he came out of surgery after putting them on stating "I did the best I could but one of the tires needed 2 lbs of weights to balance them and had to do them all static..." it feels like the truchis going to shake apart!

Anyone have balancing issues on these?

My experience thus far is not good and am going back tomorrow to see what to do. I'm guessing warranty or something with 2 LB!!!! sounds like a bad mold or something.

Not to mention, received a nice gash in my wheel too!!!
