Need help identifying this hose

Hi. Can someone please tell me what the name of this hose is? It split, and I had to duct tape the ends to get home from a trip. It is connected to the driver's side valve cover. The other side connects to a tube that eventually connects to the large air intake hose.

Also, it appears that there is oil that is traveling into the air intake hose from this hose. Any idea what that is about?

The general term would be a crankcase vent hose. It carries fresh air in/out of the engine. That hose can carry oil vapors, but it should generally be a small amount.
