Need help, OEMVALUE NAV and AC problems

installed the OEMVALUE nav system (2 peice) into my 2004 4runner last fall. Nav works great.

With temps getting really hot, the AC just was not cooling the car. Also, the recirc button not seeming to work (lets in all bad smells).

Today had appointment at dealer to access the AC insufficiency. They said nothing they could do as the BLEND DOOR has a hole in it with wires running thru it (assuming for the Nav ECU from dash).

I remember cutting out the back of the glove box, but do not recall cutting any blend door. Anyway, dealer stated they could not help me.

So, I come here (again) to the real experts. First, any ideas of what I should look for (take the glove apart myself). 2) I assume that the blend door is indeed behind the glove box. 3) anyone know what the blend door is and a replacement part number for it.

I must fix this before my wife kills me...I thought I was doing something nice by installing the Nav for her.

CAn you post some photos? I installed my nav without any cutting.. so i am guessing you can pull your wires, rerun the wires (without cutting) and deal up the area you cut.

The truck is still at the dealer. The only thing I cut was the back of the glove box (after removing it) to install the Amp/ECU. I do not ever recall touching the white honeycomb looking structure where the filter sits.

I followed the directions on the OEMVALUE site (and you help too) to the T...I dont recall any cutting of that area either...just the back of the glove box tray so the Amp/ECU can sit in the top area behind that trap door.

AC problem

I had the same problem with mine. Make sure you plugged everything back in properly. The AC has a sensor in the dash, if that sensor isn't plugged in or working properly, your AC won't kick out cool air.

It does blow cold air as long as outside temp not above 90. Then just seems to blow cool air. Where is the sensor that gave you problems, that would be helpful.

They told me that my wiring to the ECU was preventing the BLEND DOOR from moving...dont know how that is possible, but will take it apart (the glove box) and check everything. Anyone know exactly where the blend door is, I thought is was below the glovebox, but obviously not if the back cables of my ECU are hitting it (as they claim).

With temps above 90, not really looking forward to tearing the beast apart, plus cant let wife see that process, so may take a week or two until she has business trip.

Any advice to above is truly appreciated...thanks to all

Hmmm.. Not sure exactly where you wires run from the NAV to the AMP, but maybe they are just blocking the door. I would ask the tech to show you exactly what he is talking about (I have asked in the past with some issues and they were very helpful... and I have found that the explaination from the tech is often VERY different from what the service writer tells you. I don;t think the NAV install is your issue (but i would make sure your wires are not blocking any moving parts (sorry, i can;t help you with the location of the moving door.)

You commented that the "recirc" doesn;t work.. I would make sure you replugged the recirc button last time you put everything back together (does the light come on?)

Sorry i can't help more. Let us know what the tech says from the dealer.

Oh... and just FYI... is should blow VERY COLD. In 90deg high humidity my truck blows cold within 30 sec... very cold shortly after that. I have never had a vehical with an AC this cold.

Does air come out of the vents at all?
From what I remember of the install, just anterior to the glove box is the accordian like duct that lifts up to get to the cabin air filter...Perhaps somehow this got stuck in the open position, so all the air escapes here instead of going to the vents.....
Another possibility is that the amp/wires eroded through the plastic duct and the air is escaping this is why it looks like wires are running through it....
Perhaps you can just put some duct tape over this hole and re-mount your amp so that it does not rub against the ducts anymore,,,,

The blend door I mean. When cooler out, will remove all and see what to do...until then S2K with top down is the only way to go in the hot weather.

update...blend door does not move

In my impatience of not knowing...I took apart the glove and ECU area yesterday. Indeed the blend door is messed up. It seems that the motor mechansim cog is busted and the door just stays in the down (outside air) position. In the bottom trim I found the door motor cog fallen off. THere is no way I can get to the motor assemble for the blend door myself. In the meantime, I duct taped the door in the permanent recirc position.

I hear the motor for the door move, so th motor is ok, just the cog attachment to the door is fallen off and cant reattach it myself. Perhaps I did have the ECU sitting too far back in the top glove and the bundled ECU cables likely caused it to pop off. Back to the dealer soon.

Any ideas if permanent recirc will cause any problems...I tend to crack a window anyway.

Will get some pics so does not happen to anyone else. Who knows what this bill will ensue.
